power armor catapult

Post » Sat Mar 19, 2016 7:34 pm

Ok guys, just a thought but what do you think about some sort of power armor catapult/canon that could launch you across the map similar to the vertibird fast travel? instead of flying in the vertibird you would soar/tumble through the air like superman or a rag doll, I could be happy with either.

That may be the most ridiculous idea I've seen for transportation.

I'll take 2.

This is one of the most absurd suggestions I've ever seen on these forums, and that's really saying something.

You'd have to carefully plan your route. I'd hate to get catapulted straight into the side of the Mass Fusion building or something like that.

I'm sure you could get a high enough ark to clear most of the tall buildings.

How exactly would you land?

Jumping from a building in PA is one thing. And it can still damage the legs if the fall is high enough. What is landing -more like crashing- in a rolling, flailing, tumbling mass going to do?

Bear in mind, an uncontrolled fall from height was how Ingram lost her legs.

Absurd, ridiculous and silly idea. But we are talking Monty Python esc levels of silliness here, so it'd be a laugh.

yes haha your right with how silly it is but really power armor takes no fall damage so lets just stick with that, so why not a mod for the power armor say "flight control fins" haha that would take car of a controlled flight or "flaps" magical airspeed control, something of the sort. thats taking it a bit more complex than i kinda thought it would need to be. even if it needed a "landing platform" that the power armor stood on when it was thrown wouldn't be that unreasonable. it could be a giant electromagnet that disengages on impact!!

I'd settle for just being able to jump out of a Vertibird. Insertion by air would be cool and also safer than getting the muppet pilot to land and take off again without crashing the damn thing into me or my settlement! (Btw if you can already do this please let me know lol I can only hang onto the minigun and pray.)

A catapult would still be safer than BOS kamakazi pilots. If you did area damage when you landed that would also be cool. Ragdolling from 5 kilometres away into a bunch of raiders and having them explode would look awesome ??

Edit: Absurdly cool that should've said. It would be way impractical and just down right crazy but would be a good mod for sh*ts and giggles ????

It launches SS into low orbit at an arch and drop you on a landing pad. This way you avoid all the buildings. Sometimes when you're in orbit you can see destroyed Mothership Zeta.

I recently downloaded a mod that lets me craft a ''grenade" type item that lets me basically summon a set of Power Armor to me. Haven't ~tried~ it yet, but in the comments for the mod, several good ideas came out, most of which will have to wait for formal tools to become available.

The best combination of ideas I saw suggested was the ability to summon a ~particular~ set of power armor and have it be air-dropped down to your position (hopefully far enough away you do not take Impact damage when it lands!). Some even suggest having a Vertibird fly in from out of sight-range and then have the armor drop down from the Vertibird, landing with a KA-BOOM nearby. Others suggest having a dummy AI NPC inside the armor use the jet pack to fly from out-of-sight into visual range and ~then~ drop down to the ground.

There was also talk of having a Power Armor ~pickup~ or ~send home~ feature where, for example, you could get out of the power armor and then send it "home" (to any settlement you select, to a pre-designated power armor station would be great) and it would then (with a dummy AI NPC spawned inside) use the jet pack to fly out of line of sight before despawning and respawning at the settlement in question.

This! This! This!

"This is your General/Paladin etc, drop PA to my location."

Although BOS would just crash the vertibird anyway and you could walk over and climb in.

I prefer my nuclear powered pogo stick.

Both reminds me of power jumping in Morrowind, fortify jump 5x100 and jump, standard was jumping from the Telvani council chamber to the boat, worked well as you aimed for the sail.

Just as hard to control, remember missing Vivec, yes the big city :)

Don't be silly OP, a catapult would require artist and developer time, costing Bethesda $$$.

We already have artillery cannons, lets use those instead, save Bethy some $$$! You can sit on a big chair sticking out of the barrel, and BOOM! Off you go.

these guys are pros it wouldn't be that hard for them. maybe a player could do with with the creation kit. any modders out there have any input on how difficult this would be?

One way to control the landing is simple you can only use power armor with the jet pack attached or maybe a temporary one that detaches once you land there you go a controlled descent

I could see it working gated by a load screen but I wouldn't recommend launching across the map at the speed of sound. It may crash the game with out proper buffering.
