The Big Dig - spoiler

Post » Tue Mar 22, 2016 3:54 am

Would have to be the most idiotic mission/level I've experienced in gaming.

Who was the genius who thought it would be a good idea to put 3 people plus a dog (or your companion of choice) in a corridor and have some fights with Mirelurks?

Can't move forward, can't move back, can't move sideways - even the murelurks are glitching and clipping through walls because NEITHER COULD THEY!

The only and I mean ONLY way I could get out of this stupid stupid mess was to turn the game down to very easy and blow me way through.

NOTE to Bethesda - 3 people and a dog DO NOT FIT IN A CORRIDER! Throw in your mirelurks and you just have a clogged hourglass.

I know this thread will be locked, but if it achieves making Beth even consider sacking whoever wrote that mission than I've done a great thing for gaming.

Never had a problem there. Just make sure you take point. Fudge what they are doing behind you, you only need to shoot forward

I don't think you understand, if there was ever a choice of who had point it wasn't mine to make.

I got a dog that ALWAYS runs in front of me, two idiots and a whatever that thing is behind me, walls on both sides, then mirelurks join the party, everybody's shooting, the mirelurks are clipping through the walls and roof because even they can't move anywhere though they still want to get to me so it's just one big logjam - it was IMPOSSIBLE to move forward or back or sideways.

The dumb design thing is I knew without a single shadow of doubt as soon as I seen there was gonna be two idiots and a flying bot joining me and a dog going through tunnels, we were looking at something the AI and engine would combine into a super clogged artery.

Did they not test it themselves? I mean, someone stands in a doorway and you know what happens so they make a mission where it's just one loooong doorway and then let's see how many NPC and monsters we can throw in there.

And btw I'm playing on survival and these mirelurks have among them legendarys and glowing so it's not a matter of just "shooting forward" and blasting my way through... that's even if I could hit them at all once they started clipping into the walls and ceiling - due solely to the poor mission design.

Going back to very easy and blasting my way through is what I eventually HAD to do because there was no other POSSIBLE way through there.

I don't know what to tell you... I didn't encounter that problem. I also play on Survival. Maybe you got a glitch?

I'd have to agree a bit.. only for me, it was every single mission where I'm accompanied by any forced NPC. For some reason they forgot one of the things they fixed in Skyrim.. If I'm in stealth, a forced companions should be as well. I built a character that operates best in stealth. Running and gunning could get her killed.. easily. So basically she's in stealth while any NPC runs around like an idiot. Most of the time they just get "killed" but since they don't stay dead, that doesn't matter at all. They are just useless tag alongs that get in my way and make me feel like I'm playing the game wrong or built the wrong type of character.

"Yeah, you go Paladin Danse.. Run on in there idiot.. good job! You're injured and laying on the floor.. Excuse me while I use you as bait to draw enemies into the area and take them out from cover."

The other stupid thing is that if NPC's are injured and the enemies haven't spotted you, the fight is then considered over.. Your companion instantly heals and the enemies reacquire them as targets.. They'll say something clever like "hey, what's that?" .. Like they've never seen this guy they just killed before and then go kill them all over again.

Sounds like OP needs to invest in some better guns. Last time I did that quest nothing got close enough to cause a bottle neck. Everything was killed at a distance before they even knew we were there.

Yeah I haven't made any stealth builds that rely on that but if I did id want no companions in my way/no companions at all. They just svck so bad and generally even dogmeat gives my location away more than once in a fight.

I was doing the Vault 81 quest last night and used MacCready as bait for the mole rats. Then later as I was attempting to set a trap for the mole rats I was laying mines and got surrounded. I had absolutely no where to go as they were all around us. The mines went off and killed me. I guess that was pay back for using MacCready as bait from earlier.

Simple solution.

Tell the dog to go home.

Also, it's not that narrow, I made it through just fine on hard while in power armor.

Nothing wrong with my gunsm shotty and railgun modded to max damage to name but two. But when mirelurks are clipping into the walls you can't even hit them, you hit the walls. I had to go to very easy to one-shot them before they could.

All because there was 1,2,3 of us plus a dog plus a floating robot thing plus 3 mirelurks in a tunnel wide enough for one.

That's where the problem is.

I didn't really have these problems the 3-5 time I ended up doing that quest. I did find Mel to be the most annoying AI ever dealt with and used him as a meat shield anyways. The ML never got past him/to me ever lol.

The floating robot is just annoying as hell too. They should have made it so you can go through/push companions aside easily.

This.

Or alternatively note what happens when somebody stands in a doorway and then think about wether it would be a good idea to put three people (min) plus a robot plus enemies in effectively one long doorway for a mission.

As I said before, I seen it coming as soon as the mission started.

That robot can be annoying I find too. Was rarely around when I needed it to blow up a wall, so had t wait a minute for it to catch up. The only companion I even take with me is dogmeat because if hes stuck in a door not moving I can still kinda crouch-jump over him most times...

Why other people don't have any issues there is a legitimate question though.

Wow really. Put SPOILER in the title and then post in the General forum. Coffee not kicked in yet or is this normal for you?

As far as your post, can't reply since that would be putting spoilers in a NON-spoiler section.

Reported.

I play on Very Hard, and I can't say that the fights in that quest were too difficult. I'm at level 65, so not many are anymore.

It did seem a bit long, but that's subjective.

Go buy Spray n' Pray from Cricket and shoot everything in your path Mirelurks will die and NPCs sit down , make a save though , making NPCs sit down may glitch your game .

I'm not worried about the difficulty, in fact I hope I don't reach a stage where everything's a one-shot, at present I downgraded armour to the Shroud uniform because I don't want to be invincible (and yeah, it looks cool). Once me guns start one-shotting things I'll be dumbing them dowm too.

But you see, advice about me guns, me tactics and everything I can do is the cart.

Let's talk about the horse and make sure we put the horse in front of the cart and not the other way around.

You're a developer and you already know if somebody strikes a pose in a doorway, let's just say at Sanctuary for eg and let's just say Marcy..... again....for eg. You already know what difficulty's that presents for you to get through that doorway.

So, concentrating on horses rather than carts, knowing all that - would you design a mission where you put the player and 2 x NPC's plus a robot plus potentially/probably a companion in a tunnel practically the same width of said doorway? Just consider that BEFORE you even think about adding enemies.

Doesn't seem a nag horse to anybody?

And Leburns you go ahead and report, I bet you do it all the time, I bet you wait on it all the time, I bet you sweat on it, I bet you live for it. Go get your fix.
