Q: Rude character, companions, factions

Okay, this title isn't very helpful, so let me explain:

I am starting a new character, basing him off of an OC of mine from one of my many stories. He's kind of a [censored], mostly because he has personal issues to deal with, but I worry that modeling this FO4 character off of my OC's personality will make it incredibly hard to keep companions, get their perks, and join/stay in the different factions. Being super nice would be OOC, honestly, but I can't make myself scare away potential allies and piss everyone off around him. I know he will join the BoS and end with the BoS, as he's very gung-ho and loyal to many military ideals (even if he is a bit of a loner in many respects). I don't want to snub the MM, as their quests do give me incentive to customize settlements. I also want to get as many companion perks as possible. I guess...that I could just "head canon" it that he is deliberately playing his companions just to get the perks, not out of any genuine kindness for the person.

On a related note...how many companions lose affinity when, during one of their affinity conversations, you respond either with sarcasm or meanness?

I suppose I'm not looking for any specific answers, just would like to hear people's insight and experiences (and suggestions) about this general topic.
