Far Harbor locals... yay or nay?

Post » Tue Mar 22, 2016 12:37 pm

Seems like some people hated the swampfolk from the Point Lookout DLC due to their ridiculous damage absorb and damage dished out, you know, for a bunch of inbreds with no armour whatsoever and poor weaponary. Would you mind if there's something similar in Far Harbout? Like Fishmen with harpoons/spears that are bulletsponges all over again?

I mean they said Far Harbour is more feral than Massachusetts from what the Bethesda revealed so far, so there is quite a possibility of " strange " locals there as well. If you're against this, what type of enemies would you want to see?

" You done mess up now, outsider!"

I hope they add tribal/feral raiders that use bone/wooden weaponary and are tougher than their more modern cousins.

Just as long as they aren't stupid stereotypes. I think Bethesda's learned their lesson on bullet sponges in DLC, though, if Skyrim is any indication. Plus, since there's no cap, they're going to have to scale them a lot more.

I dont know, I very much doubt Bethesda is going to improve AI in this game in particular... so when they talk about " lethal creatures " and a feral world I imagine more bullet-sponging on pair with lookout's swampfolk.

I wouldn't like it either but i dont trust Bethesda that much.

I hate bullet sponginess. They can make them hit harder, have crazy weapons that do more damage or whatever but I wouldn't want them to be any harder to kill than the current wasteland factions.

Noting wrong with bullet sponginess per se, if they are in magical arcane Cthulu armor, then bullet sponginess makes some sense. Or if I'm fighting some giant sea monster, yeah it should be a tank. Otherwise its immersion breaking to have to unload a mingun clip on a yokle running around in tattered rags.

Ugh, I positively loath the swampfolk and tribals. They both do 35 unblockable points of damage with every attack. I'd visit the DLC with a high-level character capable of taking out super mutant masters and deathclaws only to get mutilated by some lobotomized drug addict with a pool cue. :flame:

The Point Lookout location itself was interesting though. The Chinease sub, Plick's Safari and Misha the bear: all fun stops along the way.

I absolutely love the Swampfolk so yeah, I wouldn't mind a version of them reappearing in Fallout 4. And if we can side with them (as apparently we can), that'd be even better.

Edit: But not the bullet sponges part. That I didn't like.

Not really.

Even without the cap, most people don't make it past level 100 without grinding. All they really have to do is make sure DLc enemies scale up to those of the base game + 1 or 2 level scales above it.

I liked the Swampfolk concept but hate the idea of bullet sponge enemies, use other better ways to make enemies tougher, bullet sponge enemies are just bad game design that do not make a game harder just more tedious in my opinion.

The Broken Steel and Point Lookout enemies in Fallout 3 were super broken. Basically meant that you had to have very specific gear to take them on, so I hope you like T-51b and A3-21's Plasma Rifle.

I can't really see anything like that happen again. Fallout 4 seems to be designed with no character ever becoming obsolete, with all the gear being upgradeable and what not. Even if Far Harbour repeated the same mistake its pretty easy to make a mod to scale back the hitpoints somewhere reasonable, like I did with Fallout 3.

No bullet sponges please. What I would like to see are some intellectual challenges, like puzzles, or some more speech challenges for my high charisma character.

I would actually like them not to bring back Swampfolk, I honestly just want Far Harbor to be what the Reservation was suppose to be, a area where ghouls went to to be alone, to govern themselves, a safe haven surrounded by death. That or colonies of FRIENDLY Mariposa super mutants that felt the east coast would be a safer place then the west coast.

I liked them but they made sense for the location, FH doesn't look that type of location. Looks more the old sea dog type of place.

I'd rather they add more mutated creatures, than have swampfolk. Though the swamp people were kind of cool.

Well I dont think any state is avoided of rednecks so Maine probably has some of them too, just not in the form of swampfolk, but more like actual hilbillies or those that live in the woods. Mind you, the description mentions having an interaction/helping local people which means they're probably friendly. What I'm interested in what state Far Harbor is, since its a feral world and how's that reflected on the local people there. You have to be tough to survive there considering children of atom, synths and what not.

In any case, feral means feral, and the DLC is bound to be harder than main game.

Ugh, honestly I had enough of super mutants. They're totally uneeded for this DLC since they're everywhere anyway. Notice how the description doesn't mention them all so im hoping there's none in Far Harbour.
