town cleaning

Post » Tue Mar 22, 2016 3:43 pm

Folks thanks to Nexus I realized something crucial to the game. I noticed that every leaf pile, trash pile & etcs adds up to how much can be built in each settlement. WTH?! Ok I got that a bomb ripped everything to heck but people did NOT just decide they liked living in filth because of it!! We should be able to remove debris from the street, house & etcs. Seriously there are trees in some houses. Whats up with that. If we could remove this stuff we could build bigger better settlements. It should be an option to have a house with a tree or full of leaves! And we should be able to remove or restore the houses in our own home town of Santuary! Lastly, I can't believe anyone from the 50s was stupid enough to think if a bomb goes off thats an end to life. Don't you think after 200 years a few trees & grass started blooming turning green again?! Maybe you should look around Nexus to see whats popular so you can have a few changes ideas. Just my thoughts.

The act of removing(scrappig) anything is what drops your meter down, allowing you to build larger. Scrapping dropped weapons is the most effective way of doing this. Scrap enough weapons and the only limit to size is the area and possibly your hardware.

LOL, you tell em! I have always thought that the idea that every one that survived the war, and their descendants, were just going to sit like some homeless bum and cry "woes me" was way off. Some one, some where, is going to have enough get up and go to clean up the mess and try to rebuild civilization. Yet we find a world where no one seems to know how to use a broom, shovel, etc.

Thankfully I'm on the PC and have access to a few mods that lets me clean all that stuff that Bethesda overlooked/ignored.

Agreed, it would be nice to be able to fully tidy our settlements.

Not only would it be cool to tidy up the settlements, but (even though it would be seemingly impossible) if we could level land out that would also be amazing! Also let us put doors on the houses of sanctuary, how can it be possible to live in wasteland such as this without doors?! In fact i would like it if they implemented a prewar restyling system so that we can make the houses look great again!!! Plus not to mention that it would be cool to run our own caravans, even if it was just like a mini-game accessed by a terminal it would still be awesome.

You can put doors on the player's starting game house and on the workbench house across the street. You have to be inside the house for them to snap in place.

I can build a power generator with nuclear components, pour concrete, filter water of all radiation and other contaminants, construct laser and missile defences.

But I can't use a broom, that thing is just too technologically advanced for me.

I just want to be able to removve some of the asphault at the drive in. Maybe give settlers brooms, sledge hammers, shovels, and machetes and let them work on freeing up space.

I'd imagine that trying to get food, water, shelter AND protecting those things from raiders is more important than cleaning up. If you're in a survival situation where food and water is scarce i dont think you are going to be spending much time doing non-essential activities like going to the gym, playing sports or cleaning up. You'd probably be spending all your time growing or scavenging for food, finding drinkable water and guarding those things.

It's great seeing Pastor Clements in Diamond City (Whatever his name is) sweep outside.

I think it's kind'a weird that there are leaves everywhere and yet no trees with leaves o.0

Bud, try standing on top of the mat and selecting it, sometimes that makes the magic flying carpet effect disappear and the rug hits the floor, actually just about ALWAYS hits the floor - a pile of leaves though may beat it.

Agreed. I have 22 people in Sanctuary, and I had to randomly assign some of them to food duty to harvest fruit we don't even need to keep them busy. Just let us assign them to cleanup/repair in stead. It doesn't even have to be a fast thing, just as long as they make progress... Rake up the leaves and branches, all the paper inside the houses, have a nice little fire.

Beth COULD fix this with a patch. Make it cost a certain level and a certain Local Leader Perk. Then we can assign settlers to do the clean up. This would be a MUCH safer approach than using a mod like Spring Cleaning. That mod is great but you can get in some REAL TROUBLE with it if you aint careful. I accidentally deleted the floor at the "hammering house" in Sanctuary in a previous play-through. never could fix it either.....everything FLOATED in air..

Beth could fix it, but I'm not holding my breath that they will address that issue anytime soon. Modders most definitely will address it. Some structures that can't be broken down just bug me more than others. Like:

-that old couch and some trees at Coastal Cottage right by the house

-some trees and an old car right by the green house at Grey Garden

-that bigass bus right out front of the house at (can't remember the settlement name, it's south of Diamond City)

-ghoul bodies, especially at Sunshine Hills. Also at SH, I'd like to get rid of most of the shabby shacks and rebuild

-same for Sanctuary, would love to get rid of those bombed out houses and rebuild better ones

I read in an article that one of the first MODs that are going to be made available to console users, should be something that will allow you to "clean" up anything in a settlement. So, hopefully the PC community helps us poor console users and follow thru with the best suggestion ever (if you're into the settlement feature).

Might be why Bethesda hasn't patched it, cause they've already got a solution in the pipeline.

Boy do you have no idea. chuckling. scrapping weapons & junk has nothing to do with this. Some of the places you build have very little capability (yellow bar). But if you could get rid of a bush or trash pile it allows more room!

True & false. If you have a bunker situation you want to furnish it with needy stuff but most people know cleanliness keeps away infections, rats & etcs. And when you aren't in a combat situation, having a clean area gives a "feel good" calming moment everyone needs to survive. You can't be fighting & worring 24/7. Need an emotional balance. So yea I have a basketball court in santuary. :P

I have tried standing on top of items to push them down to floor level, but doesn't work really well.

Yeah that's where the sickness effect would come in if Bethy implements it right in their new survival mode.
