PS4 settlement building tips?

I keep hearing about all of the fancy things you can do when settlement building, such as how to move walls, items, etc. closer to you, further away, up and down. I play on PS4, and so far the only building "trick" I know is how to spin an object around using R2/L2 triggers. And that's it. I've tried pressing other buttons and can't seem to do any of the other "tricks".

So...how do I do that? Hopefully this is a pretty straight-forward question...

Get two objects "linked" like a floor mat under a wall section, and then click and hold on the floor mat until it highlights both the mat and the wall. In some cases, this will allow you to place the wall in spots were it normally couldn't go. Regardless of what anyone says, it is pure trial and error. Sometimes it will work how you want/expect, other times it won't, and it won't have much rhyme or reason.

As far as how close/far stuff is when you invoke the actual object from the build menu, it is related to where the cursor was relative to you when the object was invoked. I think the cursor represents the x-y-z center of the object's collision model, and will default it's initial distance from you is dependent on whether that COM is inside the allowable x-y-z build distance, blah blah. Again, trial and error. Move the cursor around and play with the concept to get a feel for it.

X+R1+LJ for distance

X+L1+LJ for height

It gets a little weird trying to do it with wires
