Graphics Card Help Please

Post » Fri Mar 25, 2016 3:27 pm

I am not very techy, so I am not sure what to do. I run about 130 mods with my XPS 8000, Intel I7. The fps counter is always at 59/60 in game except at loading screens, where it is 30/33. I desire to run an ENB, but it drops my fps to 23/25. The graphics card I presently have is a GTX 750Ti and a power supply of 600 watts. I have no problems running Skyrim with the 130 +/- mods, very seldom have a CTD, and most of my mods are for a female character, such as CBBE, eyes, eyebrows, armor, and a few texture mods such as ELFX, SIMM, Pure Water and Pure Weather, etc.

If I upgraded to a GTX 960 4gb SSC Gaming ACX 2.0+ will I be able to run an ENB mod? According to Nivida my specs are:

GPU - GeForce GTX 750

CPU - Intel® Core™ i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz

Memory - 8.00GB Ram (7.98 GB usable)

Driver Version - 364.51

OP - Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium

If more information is needed to help me, please ask for the information in "laymans" terms. Sorry, but like I said I am not very tech knowledgeable.

Run an ENB mod? Yes you can. Exactly what kinds of performance you get entirely depends on the ENB mod in question in addition to other mods you are using.

It is a more powerful card and you will likely get more FPS. How many more is difficult to say.

I've got that card, and after looking through the ENB stuff, I'm inclined to think the card's not hefty enough (just a feeling, I don't have any real hard info). If I were going to want to run a bunch of hd tex mods, and an ENB - I'd probably want to go for dual 970s. I guess it's a good thing I don't really want to do that, because I can't justify the cost of those cards to my husband....

I'm not real techy myself - there are some guys around who will have some better info for you I have no doubt.

Thank you for the reply. I could include my load order in case it is needed. I also could try not using the high resolution pkgs, as my pc has high resolution, and I use the tv for a monitor. It is a 50" with an high definition hdmi cable going from it to the pc, and the tv itself is high definition. Three of the mods are not active, so I took two of them out, except for the last one. this is the ENB I would like to run. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/73937/? Called Vivid Weathers

Yet here is the load order

Hmm. Someone around here posted not long back about using Vivid. I can't remember if s/he listed machine specs or not.... maybe try a search in the mods forum for "vivid"?

Well, Vivid Weathers was my second choice. True vision was my first, even though it uses a .262 version and not the new .305 version of the binary files. The only reason I did not use the True Vision was because the colors were messed up. I took off the 3 high resolution pkgs, just unchecked them in the mod list, installed the True vision and did the recommendations using the .262 version and now it works . I still get an fps drop to about 45/47 but that is better than dropping to 23/25.

Well, that sounds good then. I don't like the "vivid" look personally, but others think it's great. I don't know about why taking out some of those would make your first choice suddenly work fine, but glad it did! Enjoy!

I think that "maybe" because I have a super high definition and video hdmi cord, the tv itself is hdmi and fairly new, about 1/2 years old, so maybe the high resolution pkgs were too much for it. I only started using them recently, and I have been playing since release date,

Yet thanks for the help.

Could be. I don't know - because I would never want to play a game on a huge screen. I have to have it windowed at 1445x945, on a 22 inch monitor - so I have enough neg space to NOT have vertigo issues. TV.... nope. In fact, I can't watch movies in theaters because those huge screens looming over.... (not to mention the other "ick" factors with going to theaters....) - and yeah, vertigo's an issue, but truthfully even if it wasn't I wouldn't go there. I like my games up close and personal - which for me is NOT on a huge TV. Not to mention that husband co-opts the TV.... for hours and hours of blather on the news....

LORD I just want to throw the damn thing off the deck - when it hit 14 feet down, it would make a MOST satisfying smash.

I understand on the vertigo. I use a wired controller for windows because of the arthritis in my hands, and the tv is 25 feet away from the pc, and my chair is about 15 feet from the tv. I also via an optic fiber cable, run the sound through the surround sound for better music quality. It works for me. Yet you know that saying, what works for one may not work for another. We very seldom watch tv, except for the 5:30 am news and weather, and the 7 am world news. Then on Tuesday nights it is NCIS. Other wise, outside of using it for my montior, the only other time it gets used is when my daughter and grandkids come to visit in the beginning of August.

Anyway, so as not to derail the thread, I will again thank you for your help and quietly sit in the shadows.

Eh, no worries. Seems like you found a good solution for now, and maybe some one of the guys who really know this stuff will be along with other recommends later. Have fun, the game IS the thing!
