WTF: this save relies on content that is no longer present?

Post » Fri Mar 25, 2016 1:39 pm

After wrestling mostly unsuccessfully with Win10 issues, I ended up reinstalling both Steam and Skyrim, but now when I load the game, I get the message mentioned above, and big chunks of my game (houses, weapons, companions, etc) are no longer there. I am at the same level and location as my last save, but some important and aggravating-to-lose stuff is gone and I have no idea how to get it back.

I have not installed any mods or modified anything about the game other than what I purchased initially, which had the Hearthfire, Dragonborn and Dawnguard DLCs included.

Any advice welcomed. Thanks.

After you installed Skyrim, are your DLCs installed as well?

No, they are not. I noticed that they can be purchased, which is annoying since I purchased them when I bought the game in the first place, but the DLCs did not get reinstalled when I reinstalled the game.

Did you buy the ultimate edition? The DLC are not located in the data directory?

Go into the Steam library and right click SKyrim. Is there a DLC tab? Make sure the DLC are all checked.

Yep, bought the ultimate edition and nope, the DLCs are not in the data directory. Nor is there a DLC tab when looking in the library.

Part of the puzzle for me. The only Skyrim that was available for downloading when I reinstalled was, I would think, the one I bought originally, but somehow the DLCs seem to have been peeled off in the process. I'm at the same level that I was on my last save, and have all the skill points and whatnot, but am apparently missing items and functions that would have only been available through the DLCs. I can always repurchase them, I guess, but would sooner not spend the money just because, and am not sure getting new versions of the DLCs would help restore what I had.

I wonder if you can use the "http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1258133-installing-from-disc-instead-of-steam/" thing to bump steam a bit on that? And maybe you should try posting on the steam forum about this, see if their tech support can help you? Of course, if you bought the ultimate edition from steam instead of on discs.... but still they should have record that you did purchase all of them.

DId you buy directly from Steam or a disc? WHere did you purchase the game if not from Steam?

I would suggest that you contact Steam also. See what they tell you.

You want official support not the community forum. https://support.steampowered.com/
