how to grow food in the mechanists layer

Post » Fri Mar 25, 2016 4:06 pm

OK. so I think the mechanists layer is the perfect place for an underground settlement. I don't know how to grow food or procure water in the mechanists lair. What do I do?

This morning there was a mod that allowed full settlement works in there on the Nexus.

Well, it will be a great place to build an arena next month.

As for food and water, wouldn't a supply line be able to take care of those needs?

Should be possible when the Creation Kit for Fallout 4 comes out, all one needs to do is add a settlement workbench keyword to the workbench.

Yes, I have scrapped all the junk and cleared it out.

I built a bit of power and hooked it up to the existing working security light.

Oddly enough you can build wind turbines right up near the ceiling, poking into adjacent rooms that are not actually in the build area.

As it stands I can't see what the use of it is as a settlement.

I don't think there is anything that you can build that you can assign a robot or settler to.

Apart from assigning one to a provisioner, that seems to be it.

Maybe assignable tasks come later.

Unless i am missing something theres not much need for it.

Its a lot like the nearby airport settlement location, actually. Not much to do with it given the limitations of what you can build, though I still am confused about why water shows up. I think its probably there as another "player home" option where you can build something in the middle of it. Note that you can take down all the walkways and stairs.

Great location for me to build robots and not be bothered by human settlers.

I just find it so weird that it's very much unlike the prydwen to the point I'd like to believe they made it deliberately inhabitable, but the food and water...

Yes. Link it with Greygarden for really good effect.

Tho I preffer having each settlement self-sufficient.

I guess they intended it to be more for filling with robots, because there's a few robot editor pads there but no ability to plant food.

I hope we get to build plant trays like they have in vault 81 soon.

Has anyone tried to use the rug trick to place a water pump yet?

How does the Institute grow their food? They certainly wouldn't grow food on the surface.

For now at least Beth did say they were looking into allowing 3rd party mods unto the console versions of the game.

Robots can be assigned to any task, just like a settler. I've started replacing all of my provisioners and stores with robots. Even been using robots as scavengers and defence. I've created construction protectrons for construction too. Also got a doc handy too with a healing aura that goes around healing settlers.
