Caveman needs technical help!

Post » Fri Mar 25, 2016 12:36 pm

Hi.

I'm not the best at social media, I freely admit. Heck, I don't even have a mobile phone. I tried looking through the help section but got nowhere.

I wanted to upload a screenshot from my current game because I found it hilarious but I can't find a way to do it.

Can anyone tell me how to do this, please? I hope you'll appreciate the end result as much as I did.

I'll go out and hunt mammoth for a while, work on perfecting my latest bison-bone club and tan my skins in stale urine. Hopefully, once these tasks are done, someone will have told me how to work the treadwheel on my inter-web thing.

Thanks.

I use https://imgur.com/to upload files for linking, then just post the link, on other forums you can show the image directly.

The not-pretty, most basic way is to click on the screenshot from your Steam content to open it, then right click on it, 'copy image url', then paste in your forum post. It will show as a link that we can click on.

We all had to learn sometime, lol. :)

LOL

Do you use F12 to take your screenshots? They should be in your Steam content if so. If you don't use the F12 button, I don't know where they will be in your system. :( Use F12 from now on, makes it much easier. (usually better quality too, for all that people complain about Steam) Hmm, Just happened to think...do you have other games on Steam? If so, you may have to choose Skyrim as the filter in your content. Then it should show Skyrim only shots.

Edit: you may not have them uploaded to Steam yet, go to your Steam content, filter by Skyrim, then click on 'upload screenshots'. All of those options should be almost at the top of the page.

If you took the screenshots by pressing "Print Scrn", they'll be in the Steam folder where you installed the game.

If you find your pictures on your PC... create an Imgur account... you can simply drag the pictures from your "picture viewer" onto the imgur download screen and then hit the download button.

1. Once it uploads.

2.open a page here on the forum...

3.find the nifty little chain with the green circle and open that...

4.open another tab to your Imgur account,

5.click on your picture so that it has it's own tab....

6.copy the web address

7. paste it into the box that popped up in the reply thread here

OR

6. high-light the web address and drag it to the box in the thread here. <<~~ this is what I do.

Thanks, I didn't know that, as I've always used F12. :) They always go to a Steam uploader window then, so you can choose what you want to actually go to the content screen.

Laddy, I got a really good laugh out of your post - I understand how difficult stuff like this can be, I'm not laughing AT you, but your post was seriously hilarious! You're not a caveman, you're just a bit behind the curve.

I like imgur myself - I have sites of my own where I could post my screenies, and post links to them, but people see private site addys (like mine - bytehaven.com), and they're a bit leery of going there (even though my sites are clean). So that's why I use imgur. I don't use photobucket because they're terribly script-heavy, and my noscript addon has heart-failure about photobucket so *shrug*....

I quit using Photobucket for the same reasons, plus the photo quality at Imgur is just far better!

Okay,

thanks for the replies!

I really oughtn't to let Grud anywhere near the computer, especially when he's not happy with his club / urine-potty / mammoth hunting etc...he gets very irritable, as you've doubtless observed. I've tried to explain the words 'patience' and 'calm' to him but he just gets mad and thumps me with his (imperfectly fashioned) bison-bone club. This adds to the sore head that I already had from trying to upload photos. Really, after all this it's going to be an anti-climix if I finally manage it...and I'm about to give up: at least for today.

I'll try to say what I've done in a more modern and up-beat fashion.

I used F12 to take screenshots. I uploaded them to the cloud. I made them public. As Grud tried to explain earlier I also put them on photobucket (foe-toe buck it as Grud might say). I couldn't get an image URL however hard I tried. I also save my screenshots on disc. I've made this particular one my desktop background because it makes me giggle every time I turn on the PC, so I have it in JPEG.

In all honesty, I do find it ridiculous that no social media website has the common sense to allow people to upload JPEG: a format that almost everybody's cameras, ipods and word processors use. Instead you have to go through this tedious and laborious process to send an image. For heaven's sake, Id be quicker tracing a few dozen copies of a printout and hand-delivering them to you!

I appreciate all of your kind suggestions immensely but I'm not one to create all sorts of accounts just to post a picture on one site.

As Grud might say..."Me no want hassle. Me thump Bethesda man on head. If he no want make pitchers easy, he no get pitchers!"

Which is a shame because it was a funny screenshot!

Oh well, you'll just have to make do with my words, such as they are. I'll try to post an account of the scene that made me laugh until I cried but it would be better with an image...a picture paints et cetera...

Thanks again for the advice. I'm frustrated with the policy/practice of the forum's designers, not the individuals who've been kind enough to offer assistance.

Edit: I'll post the scene in this forum under the heading: "Riften cabaret gets the go-ahead, claims report."

Even if you uploaded them to the cloud, they should still be available to upload to your Steam content. Give it a try, the upload button should be there when you open content.
