Can Bethesda Please Explain Forced Download March 25

Post » Sun Mar 27, 2016 6:32 pm

I don't like being forced to download something when the company won't tell me anything about it or even acknowledge that it happened.

Did this somehow occur without Bethesda's knowledge? How can an update go out without any kind of announcement or explanation? I'm pretty sure Microsoft has rules requiring some kind of approval procedure that involves divulging the contents, so how on Earth did this happen?

Better way to get an answer might be directly to Pete on twitter.

lol @ without bethesda's knowledge.

It's some devious plot concocted by evil gnomes! Couldn't possibly have anything to do with recent dlc.

It glitched one of my settlements into constant depression, they have food water defence and shops and yet it wont stop going down. Don't they have people to test these sorts of things before releasing them!? It's so stupid.

This is a very minor update that we were requested to include. Essentially adds a notification so that once you've downloaded DLC content, you'll receive a message informing you that your content is downloaded and you need to restart the game.

Call me suspicious, but 400 mb seems a little big for a line of text regarding a download.

It's just the way the console update system works. Games are apparently devided into chunks and to replace just one file in a particular chunk means they have to download and replace the entire chuck. This can be why updates can be gigabytes in size.

I can't remember exactly where I read this although it was probably on xbox forums but that's apparently how it works.

Thank you for the reply.

I recommend announcing that, and adding a 1.4x note to the patches explaining it. Edit: you already did that at the same time you replied to me, never mind.
