On another message board I frequent, someone mentioned the rise in more "crafty" hobbies lately. Some people find them relaxing. Others just enjoy working with their hands. I was curious how many here enjoy doing "crafty" things
"Crafty" can be many things, from scrap-booking to furniture building, from macrame to fixing up the house. I recall "back in the days" (waaaay before my time), families did a lot of crafty things that were not handled by big businesses. I even recall my 4 sisters and Mother gathered around the dining room table with patterns laid out and sewing clothing. Of course, these were 1960's patterns, but still something most of them did. My father loved working with wood. He built most of our bookcases in the house, but not any other furniture. Many (2?) of my sisters still knit and crochet.
I have long wanted to work with wood too, but never seem to have the time, space, or money to start. I'd love to build my own furniture that was actually at least average quality and made with good materials. I have lived in apartments since leaving home back in the 80's. Not really conducive to a well stocked wood-shop
[EDIT]
Oh! My son also enjoyed seeing when he was in high school
So, do any of you use your hands for little things? Or is it an activity of the distant past? I have not even looked, but it may even be cheaper to buy from a big store than make something. What say you?
