Roleplaying as a Merchant

Post » Tue Jul 06, 2010 5:31 am

Lately, after exploring http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9514 I discovered a small path with a small table that has a "Money Sack" on it. This gave me the idea of becoming a poor merchant in a poor part of Weye.

But...How would I go about this? From what I have seen, no person goes near there, but there are some animals wondering around...

Now, if you have any ideas, tell me, and it doesn't have to only be about Weye.

I don't know how much fun it would be to sit at one booth with nobody around... but maybe check out the couple of merchant mods on http://www.gamesas.com/?showtopic=931523&hl in the Jobs section.

Without mods, travel by road from one city to the next, buying items from one food, clothing, house items... etc, and see if you can sell some for a profit at the next city.

For a more intensive work out, go to all minor settlements and check to see what they have and do not have.
Buy up a load of stuff that they may need in IC, then go from door to door planting the stuff you bought in their houses.

All of my characters seem to be "merchants" of a sort. They acquire goods cheaply from (usually unwilling) sources, and sell to retailers at wholesale prices.

This seems to be a very hard thing to role play considering the fact that no NPC's walk towards you and talk to you on their free will besides it being a part from quests. I suggest that instead of actually being a merchant, that you become a stocker instead. Like how you would go around and help other smaller merchants with their merchandise by selling them things you don't need so they can sell them for their own purposes. Go city to city and sell. You make money and somewhat in a way would be a merchant.
First you could stock upon sellable items that you don't need and sell them and continue to do so. :]

Be a traveling merchant and sell alchemy ingrediants to various vendors, be a supplier.

This sounds like the most workable approach to me. You could add some roleplay to this too. Viator Accius of Stonewall Shields is running out of merchandise and has commissioned you to find 10 shields and bring them back for him to sell. Phintias in The First Edition needs 20 books, ASAP. Palonirya in Divine Elegance needs 10 expensive dresses. And so on. I find that it's very fun - and often more interesting - to invent my own home-made quests.

if you were looking for a specific type of clothing to wear, i would suggest perhaps the deciever's finery, which is awarded after completing the dark brotherhood quest "whodunit?", and without anyone in summitmist manior discovering you to be the killer
