Rogue Bot missions?

So just for some EXP I started doing a few of these and ... well I really haven't had to do much.

The first ended up near the Revere Satellite Array, which is of course full of Super Mutants. Well before I could even find the bot the Super Mutants found it and blew it up with heavy gun fire and a suicider. I just suddenly got a pop-up that the mission was done, some EXP and was ready to move on. Not wanting to leave the scrap I did have to hunt down the robot body and loot it.

Next was a group of bots near Nahant Chapel. I got there and about six bots were mixing it up with some raiders. As soon as the raiders were finished some BoS dropped in and took the bots out. Within a minute some Synth 'popped' in and took out the BoS (a courier even took out a Legendary BoS Commander). I'm currently friendly with BoS and The Institute, so I just walked around looting.

The next rogue bot location the same thing. And then again. Seems I can never actually kill the bots myself. Is anyone else finding that these missions are sending them into Hot Spots where there is already a lot of action going on?

I love the robot and rust Devils spawning everywhere. Before I got bored with nothing to fight, I don't have that problem no more.

Yeah, that seems normal. I've killed the Institute and the BoS, so there are less high-level patrols out at the moment, and even so the bots are dead before I reach them about half the time.

If it's a single bot it is usually not fighting anything. Groups of bots are either fighting Supermutants (they lose), Minutemen (maybe one bot still standing when I reach them), Railroad (ditto), Raiders (the bots win), Rust Devils (they lose), or institute (it varies). Very occasionally they're fighting Settlers, and they usually win that one. So yeah, having done twenty or so of these quests, the Mechanist did not loose a scourge on the wasteland, the Mechanist loosed a pile of scrap on the Wasteland.

Oh, and sometimes it's a three-way battle. There's one spot where I find the bots fighting a Mirelurk Queen and a group of Rust Devils. Or rather I find the remains of the bot and the devils. Gotten that location twice now, been highly amusing both times.

My first mission was at Andrew station. The moment I popped in from fast travel I got a rogue robot complete and the xp. I looked around and the bots were killed off by synth eradicators. The second time was at west Roxbury where they were caught in between the super mutant residents and a random encounter of gunners and the children of atom. I just hung back and waited because there was no way I was gonna wade through that mess. But, pretty much every time I seem to go stop some rogue bots, it appears I'm not the only one hunting them.

Seems about right, happened with all the ones I've encountered. The one problem I seem to have is if there is a sentry bot around and the other robots are dead, when the sentry goes down and explodes it launches all the others in random directions and can never find them to loot. Course though since I made my Assaultron/Robo brain contraption I have not had to do much fighting. That thing destroys everything in its path. Figured my character could use a vacation from fighting and just enjoy the sights for a bit.

I get them most often at the Fort Hagen Filling Station - and often get a few settlers to hire (if you save them fast enough) while I'm there too. Ironic that they introduced settlers you can meet and hire as part of random encounters as part of a DLC which kind of makes human settlers less important.

I played this quest 20 times in a row, and I think it's starting to bug out on me now. One time the robots and the settlers didn't fight, and the settlers just ran for cover when the robots starting fighting me. Same thing happened outside Hangman's Alley, when the BoS stood there and watched the robots scrap with me. Another time the robots were ganked by a tag-team of BOS and Institute Synths, who then proceeded to patrol the area around Fort Hagen Filling Station like best friends. If only that could happen in real life outside the radiant quest spawns.

Well ok then. As long as I can still get the EXP and some loot I guess it isn't a problem.

Thanks! :D

Fun fact: the game has a phase where you "get to know the factions and can join them" except the mechanics in missions/world are broken af because whoever decided this & whoever made the faction missions completely flopped on their part. Another prime example of failure-planning during the translation from storywriting to questbuilding is the mission "Tradecraft" & "Battle for Bunker Hill"

Yeah Bunker Hill is the worse. If I'm friendly with each group (and currently I am) you can literally just walk around looting everything. Last time I did this I had the Strong Back perks and literally pick up every single item dropped and then Quick Traveled back home with 3K+ weight in loot.
