How should fast travel be implemented?

The outcome of the poll was 75% pro fast travel. I've left out the poll question because it is evident that a fast travel system is wanted.

If you're new to this topic please read some of the last pages in the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1087104-to-fasttravel/ previous to this topic.

I've seen that many use different definitions and this is the widest of definitions i can think of. This does mean that magic is also included as fast travel. (Warriors can always buy scrolls to use, e.g. to flee from a battle.)

The definition of fast travel is as followed:

- Any means of shortening in game time spent travelling from A to B.

I think Morrowind's system was good, take the striders or boats to larger locations or members of the mage's guild to transport you to their counter parts. This way fast travel exists and is a part of the game world not just close your eyes and click your heels together and appear. Of course minor locations should require walking to or perhaps a system could be implemented where hunters/explorers will take you to the more important minor locations (all for a fee).

After the way the last topic ended with niggling and disputes I think we can safely leave the topic of fast travel to be discussed at sometime in the indefinite future.

In other words, let's give the a rest for the moment.
