Just take Benny for example. There are so many different resolutions to that situation based on certain skills/perks, gender, and some other means.
In Fallout 4 it would just be show up and kill Benny...like it was with Kellog.
FO4 did not dumb down its RPG as it plays exactly like any other RPG done by Bethesda since 1994, though it ironically has more RPG elements popularized by the 90's RPG games than any Bethesda game before it.
Bethesda doesn't care about such things: there was no actual reason to develop New Vegas either, other than Todd randomly deciding that he wanted people who worked on original Fallouts to make another Fallout.
The bigger issue would be how busy Obsidian would be as they now have their own projects and original franchises they work on.
It had to be special: Benny's death was when the NV's storyline effectively ends and pure head-canon story-lines begin.
And after reading that NV prequel comic, I'd say Benny still did not get the treatment he deserves.
Sadly, New Vegas seems like it's going to be the last true Fallout sequel. The only hope we have is that Bethesda actually listens to all the fans that want Obsidian to make another Fallout game. Unfortunately it seems we're stuck with whatever the hell Fallout 4 is supposed to be for the foreseeable future.
EDIT: Wow, the mods are really off their game right now. WAKE UP GUYS!
The mods are volunteers, and don't work on a schedule. As a result, there are simply times when nobody is on duty. It will be locked as soon as one wakes up.
I don't, I was just baffled that it hadn't been locked considering how on point the mods usually are.
My post about the comparisons was mostly rhetorical but it still got some interesting replies. Just for the record, I have played the following Fallouts: Fallout 3 was my first Fallout, then New Vegas, picked up the original Fallout and played about half of it, and finally Fallout 4. I don't know if that is enough credentials to qualify my opinion but I like them all, some more than others.
I like your explanation and you make some really good points. I for one, absolutely loved Fallout New Vegas and I don't care who made it.
I get where you're coming from, too. I am not one of those. I am pretty happy will all of the ones I've played.
Pretty much sums up how I feel.
Next FO game will be clearly better than FO4,
but I hope people remember next FO game can be masterpiece only because FO4 provided the foundation.
FO4 improved so much on graphic, combat and other things.. now they can focus on more RPG elements.
Man don't bother arguing with Cider, dude is either legit dumb or a troll, I learned that the hard way in a thread ages ago where I used steam reviews(where you actually need to own the game to review it) to back up my statement that players in general found FO4 more dissapointing than TW3 (iirc FO4 had like 80% positive and TW3 over 90%). You know what his reply was? That since FO4 had a larger amount of positive reviews(ie greater in number) than TW3 my statement was false and percentages didn't matter.
So yeah, just ignore him. Arguing against someone like that is like banging your head on a brick wall.
They changed a lot of the implementations of RPG elements, but I've never felt like they dumbed anything down. I think a lot of the complaints about the lack of RPG elements in this game basically come down to people not wanting Fallout to change. There are plenty of RPG elements in this game. There are tons of choices that you can make, and different choices can have very different outcomes. Sure, there's plenty of instances of dialog where your only options are 'yes, no, sarcastic yes, and more info?', but there are plenty of instances of dialog with a lot more depth than that too. There are also plenty of instances of very simple dialog with no meaningful differences in outcomes in FO3 and NV.
Personally I thought New Vegas was a pretty mediocre game when compared to the other Fallout games. It'll never really be anything more than a side game to the actual Fallout series in my mind. Fallout 4 on the other hand, is the best Fallout game ever made in my opinion. There's certainly room for improvement in it, but I've never played a game that couldn't be improved somehow.
Uh, no. It may surprise you (For some odd reason) to learn that there are many people who feel that Fallout 4's RPG mechanics are bad.
Yeah, I can't take anything you say seriously after saying that. I realize it's your opinion, but wow.......
Reasons why I don't consider Synths more than educated robots is the fact we rescue H1 and when we meet up with it again they have a complete different personality and memories when we first meant.
Don't worry, I stopped taking you seriously a long time ago.
As if your opinion of me actually matters to me in the slightest.
Anyone who actually thinks Fallout 4 is the best Fallout game should never be taken seriously.
Getting personal never help guys. I consider NV the best Fallout but Fallout 4 is second.
Fair enough (Talking about the first part btw, not the second).
