I know to many this won't matter, but to some like myself it was a pretty hard shot this morning:
Ed Snider, owner of the Philadelphia Flyers Hockey Club and Chairman of Comcast-Spectacor, passed away this morning at the age of 83 after a 2+ year battle with cancer. To hockey fans, love him or hate him, he was one of the greatest owners in the sport. To Flyers fans, he has been a hallmark of the city for nearly 5 decades. To the people of the Delaware Valley, he was one of the most charitable people and nicest person you could have ever met. It didn't matter who you were, but if you ever managed a chance to converse with him, he would always lend you his full attention and give your a full response. For a man of prestige and wealth, if you called him "Mr. Snider" he would reply "call me Ed". For Flyers fans, he brought hockey to Philadelphia, and created one of the most successful franchises in the modern era. In this day and age where ownership is either split through multiple people, sold and traded, Snider stood by the team he created back in 1967 until the end of his days.
As I said, not many will be affected by this, but know there is a black cloud over the Delaware Valley today.
On a personal note, I once got to talk to Ed Snider as a fan and it turned into a conversation between a wise man and a man eager to learn something, and the advice I took from him has stuck with me to this day and I'll never forget it.
Thanks for everything Ed. Let's Go Flyers.
