Region Rename

After years of increasing annoyance, I decided to rename some of my mod's Regions.

When I loaded a save that was made in one of them, my Hero was whizzed off to Fort Moonmoth (the one near Balmora). After a long and arduous journey i finally returned to foresaid region, only to find out it still had its original name. EE showed us why: the REGN records in the save still had that name. And they can be edited there. Fine. I've tried WMSA's repair all on the save, but that didn't find anything to repair. Then i did a Mark without the rename stub, and a load *with* it. Recall didn't do a thing, so i journeyed once more all the way to that remote area to find what i had already suspected: No Mark Cross there.

All this is so awkward that i nearly cancelled the idea for the rename, but then I thought that maybe one of the Great Mod Masters on this forum might have been there, done that and might have some advice to rename a region so smoothly that players already using the old names don't have to EEdit their save and keep Moonmoth location off the map.

Of course i didn't travel hours and hours to get there, i simply summoned a Bonelord and selected the Travel location. Funnily though, this Bonelord had the *NEW* names in the list...

Have you tried to load your Regions mod into http://mw.modhistory.com/download-95-7040 and check the records, not sure how it's with saves though?

I know TESPCD show all known records and you can also edit any records in TESPCD, if am I not mistaken.

Also note that TESPCD can also be used to clean a mod.

Save files are basically mods that are very last in your load order. Your mod may change the name of the cell, but if there's already a record with a different name for it in your save, then the saved version will be loaded after the modded one and as such overwrite it. The only solution here is to remove or alter that record from your save file.

Thanx, Leonardo. I'll try that one , but i was slightly mistaken in the opening post about the whizzing. It was a save in a named cell within that region. Both Region and Cell had been renamed between the Save and the Load. When i did the steps in an unnamed Cell within that Region, there wasn't any whizzing.

Goodness, Greatness! Save Files are Mods. This is amazing. One more reason to Love MW. It's so bloody elegant. I'll try with a copy that has all REGN deleted.

THANX ! ! !

All REGN out is quite idiot proof. They're immediately repopulated in the next save, with the new values. Still whizzing from the renamed Cell, but i can warn for that phenomenon. Deleting the Cell from the save doesn't seem a good idea as it would probably delete anything you've put there as well. Renaming it still does the whizzing (even with the scan).

Generally speaking : Saving in a Cell that will be renamed at the next Load is not a good idea.

Unfortunately i cannot repeat the steps. Whizzing from anonymous Cells as well now when REGN is cleared. I fear renaming Cells / Regions is NOT an option.
