Dovahkiin play through

Post » Wed Apr 13, 2016 11:23 pm

Hi guys.

I've been a visitor on this site for several years now. I though it was due time for me to sign up and get involved!

I love Skyrim, I play on both console and modded on my laptop. I love the setting of the game, the mechanics, everything! I'm also a huge fan of Oblivion (my first ES) and Morowind.

My first ever topic, I have chosen to discuss what people actually think about playing as the Dovahkiin, or 'Trailerkiin' as he has become to be effectionately known as. Have you tried it? Would you consider? I think aesthetically (in terms of in-game lore) it's a lot of fun and a challenge at higher levels due to what can be considered a lower level armour / weapon combo.

Let me know your thought, or your own aesthetic favourites!

Thanks,

R4mbo

Not exactly sure what you mean. All my girls are Dragonborn. Because you can't play the Dragonborn DLC if you aren't.... (well, you can go to Solstheim and PLAY - but you don't get the DLC MQ....)

But NONE of them any more start in Helgen, since I play on PC, and therefore I have mods. Lots of mods. Starting with Skyrim Unbound (which is an alternate start where you choose the parameters for the playthrough).

None of my characters do very much of the MQ any more. None of them do any of the CW quest line *shudder*. I roleplay all of them in my mind (and one of them posted in episodes in the http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1600980-character-stories-7/?view=getnewpostthread). I've played since release, and while I haven't played solidly since then, I still have a lot of hours (not to mention a lot of toons!) since the game released. So now I play to suit myself.

I played the entire MQ twice (including the CW) - once as an Imperial, once as a Stormcloak. That was MORE than enough of THAT, thank you. I don't have any interest in doing that again (though my Character Stories RP girl is going to have to do it - but that's her fault, not mine! She didn't ask permission....) And just the MQ, none of the CW crap.

Well, first, I won't play the iconic "Trailerkiin" because I don't play male characters. The day Bethesda creates a female character to publicly represent their games is the day I may consider playing such a character.

That said, I have done something along these lines, just not an exact copy of "Trailerkiin." I have only finished the main quest once, but I've played a non-Dragonborn Nord character who wore Hide Armor and wielded a Nord Hero Greatsword for her entire game (40+ levels). With the addition of Smithing - which I used because fit her personality perfectly - it was not too difficult to stay alive.

You need to stay on your toes. It's important to use terrain to your advantage. Stay alert to what's happening around you. Pick your fights, when you can. Scope out your enemies before a battle, when you can. Being prepared before you fight is sometimes the difference between continuing to play and loading a previous save.

I think playing melee characters with low-level equipment is a fun challenge. But I have to be in the mood for it. It requires me to pay attention and sometimes I'm not in the mood to pay attention. Sometimes I just want to have a bit of mindless fun. On those days I play some other type of character.

I always play on Adept. But I use mods that increase the difficulty of combat in many ways.

Oh, was I supposed to assume "trailerkin" meant the male portrayed on the box? Huh. Missed that. Well I NEVER play males. EWWW.

I never gave it much thought tbh. It could be an interesting few hours fun to deliberatly construct the trailerkiin.

However, if my Adella got a whiff of that.....there would be nowhere I could hide. What she does to a few selected unfortunate bandits would likely be done to me  Its actually worse than being married ;)

Ohhh sorry....Adella wants her armour cleaning....better go!

I prefer genericborn myself lol. I pictured him as a spellsword, with a dash of assassin/thief thrown in. He also apperantly joins the vampires during the dawngaurd questline if iirc about the trailer. Personally i like the armor minus the goofy horn helmet With smithing any armor can be used, which really helps with whatever look your going for

hmmm nope, don't think I have ever done a character like the picture. Don't like Helmet's. My guy's tend to heavy armor, Girl's to light.

That always bothered me about him, why is he wearing an iron helmet with light armor, it just drives me insane that lack of armor conformity.

To answer the OP, I have done a character who was dedicated to the way of the voice, though I never wore that armor and wasn't much of a pacifist. It's quite the adventure doing nothing but learning words of power training to face the world eater and then Miraak.

I quite like Bethesdakiin. He carries an aura of mystery, despite his seemingly common appearance.

His play-through is on my Skyrim bucket list.

Thanks for your replies. I get that this particular character is not for everyone, from the actual play style to the type of armour used. I just find it very enjoyable when, as per a reply above, you have to think about how to fight and when you should or shouldn't fight.

I think the character is very cool though. He has an aura about him that just screams 'destiny driven', you don't really know where he has come from or particularly where he going. You just know that this guy is here for one purpose: to rid the world of Alduin. It's a lot of fun to do the main quest, as well as the main Dawnguard and Dragonborn quests as this character is used for the trailers too.

I have tried but never got that far with it. It's kinda annoying having mixed armour types as you waste perks in two trees. I think the look is really cool, the iron helmet is one of my favourite in the game and the sword and axe combo looks really awesome. Hmm...this is making me wanna do it now!

Tell me about it! To get me in the mood for some Dovahkiin action I always watch the first ever trailer where Esbern is speaking and the character is fighting the dragon on the snowy mountain side... Epic.

Dear God, I'd never do such a thing.

Not only do I almost never play Nords, that helmet is an atrocity in a sea of hideous helmets of the entire franchise. Okay, it's not the worst (that prize goes to the horned Steel helmet), but it's still ugly as sin.

Don't get me wrong, I have done the whole "Dragonborn" save the world thing... but just the Main Quest and Dragonborn. I tend to do Dawnguard with a different character, though I did all three DLC's with the same character when they first came out ( on 360 ) but he wore Blade's armor after finding it and was a Battlemage....sword and shield, shield and spell or sword and spell.

I play an "Eagleborn", essentially the same thing as a Dragonborn but of Merrish descent.

If there is one thing I've learned about studying mythologies irl is that many of the stories and prophecies have overlapping and duplicate aspects where the only difference is the appearance of the "hero" which reflected each respective culture. Same thing here, a legend in Skyrim could be the same in Summerset Isle, just told with Mer instead of Men. Hence why being dragonborn isnt limited by race.

That's a really interesting way to look at it, it's almost like you're using that specific races Pantheon to influence your character!

I haven't played Trailerkiin, but I have a similar character. She's a Nord who fancies herself a berserker, only wears fur armor. With a heavy shield and a high quality steel sword (The Stamford, very nice sword mod). Also using a mod that enables stuff like fur and hide to reach legendary. The basic idea is to rely on Block. I don't know if this will really work long term, but she's doing fine at level 12 on Adept.

My first character to finish the MQ wore steel plate, but defeated Alduin with only an unenchanted Skyforge steel battleaxe and her Thu'um. Like a TRUE NORD™.

Just started a new game... As this guy. Got my laptop out and downloaded some mods. I've just found as well that there is a mod on Steam called 'heavy studded armour'. So I can achieve the Dovahkiin's iconic look and just invest perks in the heavy armour tree!
