Censorship.....WHY!

Post » Wed Jul 07, 2010 10:27 pm

I watch alot of the trailers (container city was the main one) I cant help but notice no matter what video I watch they all involve the operatives INTERROGATION and they ALL cut out the part where he tasers the crap out of them, (i wonder what the resistance one does) also why is the sound of gunfire differant when you aim down the sights (which is pointless they are just as accurate)

My response... Why not?

Not that I'm against showing anything, it's just my natural reaction to "(blank) WHY?!?"

they can hardly show torture and then expect ...(what's the name of that "company" that rates games and vids?) to still give it a teen rating.

and torture get's censored because kids these days are already finding enough ways to torture without grown-ups showing them ways they might not have heard of

Indeed. It's one of the first games that does this, afaik. It's pretty awesome.

Yeah if you've ever fired a gun with out ear defenders, they make very different sounds when firing from the hip and aiming.

The overall gun-sound is worse than in Bad Company 2, though. In the expo-demo at least, iirc.

Bad Company 2 has some of the best sounds I have ever experianced in a video game. (Consoles).

Medal of honor multiplayer (2010) also has some amazing sounds. Fitting since it's made by DICE aswell.

They might've not shown it becuase:

a ) Animation were'nt done by that time
b ) They wanted to leave it out as a surprise for when we play the actual game
c ) It was a early build, yeah? So they might've had harsh language in, and since they're aiming for teen, they did'nt show it. (The victim and the one interrogating would curse during the animation)
d ) All of the above

''WHERE ARE YOUR FRIENDS HIDING [censored]''
''[censored] YOU, DOG''
*tase*
''Arrgablargablarghhh, you son of a [censored]!''
*tase*
''They're hiding.. here.. Please, no more..''
*tase*

If it's option C, then I think they've cut out the language now, so if they're gonna show more, then might show it, without the meanie words.

But why cut out ''mature'' language? :l

Kids learn these words at an early age already, over the XBOX I can hear 8-12 year olds saying the f-word, biatch (without slang), and all that.

I remember learning my first curse words at an early age from my parent, my friends, and the television, and I don't think the situation has become any better now than it was before.

It's a shooter where people die, get shot, and bleed to death, not having these ''mature'' words, would really make it seem ''unrealistic''?

If you've played Mass Effect 2, you might know what I mean if you listen to Jacob :P

''YOU'RE A MEAN MOTHER, HUH?!''
''HAVE A NICE TRIP!''

true, but why even aim for a teen rating anyway? Brink having an MA15+ rating wont deduct sales, it would probably increase them. when I was a kid I played MA15+ games before i was 10 (Also watched MA movies). Also would draw in some older audiences that might have overlooked it

Also the main reason behind no R18+ rating in games (At least here in australia) is cause they argue kids are still gonna play them. So there's no real chance of Brinks audience being reduced cause of a slightly higher rating.

A lot of the older generation likes to blame video games for violence in kids. So they try and censor things that might "corrupt" the youth.

Published by Bureau of Justice Statistics(U.S.), as video game sales have increased, overall total violent crime offenses has been literally cut in half. Sales of video games have more than quadrupled from 1995-2008, while the arrest rate for juvenile murders fell 71.9% and the arrest rate for all juvenile violent crimes declined 49.3% in this same period (ProCon.org).

Video games are just another cop-out excuse parents and advlts use as a cause of violence. They will point the finger at anything they can, anything that takes the focus on the real underlying cause(s) - the parents themselves.

Overly sensitive parents stifle our youth.

I don't see the point in having an extended torture scene. A Taser shock or holding a gun to their head might work just as well.

Think along the lines of around ten seconds of "Tell me what you're up to or I'll shock you with this again".
