TES Sounds

Post » Wed Jul 07, 2010 10:34 am

I know this was touched on in a similar thread, but this is a bit more specific.

I stumbled on a song I used to listen to a lot while playing morrowind http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMo1B5QwAYE and I was shocked how vividly I thought of Ald-ruhn being enveloped in a dust storm. With guards stuck at their posts trying desperately to shield their eyes. That song probably takes me away to vvardenfell faster than the morrowind theme.

Anyone else have a similar experience, if so which tes game / song? Is their a specific event you think about? And for the heck of it what do you think a soundtrack to the new tes might sound like?

I've downloaded all the "public" music made for oblivion from TES Nexus and it sounds realy nice to listen to in bed. I just set the folder (over 1 gig) to random play with media Player and fall asleep.

Wow, I thought I was the only one that did that. :D

I'll pitch in a story.

I burned Morrowind theme song onto a CD along time ago. Well I found that CD in my car and put it in my Mustang. It worked...

Next day after school, while I'm in the parking lot and everyone is blasting rap and heavy metal and peeling out and acting a fool, I open my doors up and blast the Morrowind theme song, and sit on my trunk, and just... enjoy it. It really does do something majestic. Then my friends came over and we danced to the other songs I had on the CD, like the battle songs and various town songs.

Whatever it is, I hope it isn't just a remix of Morrowind's, and I hope it doesn't have a beat.

I can't really explain it but, this song by Tim Russ really just gets to me when I'm thinking about Morrowind. It fits perfectly, to me, wondering through the wilderness in Morrowind.

oblivion and morrowind both had phenomenal music, so whoever composed them should definitely work on tes:v

Jeremy Soule :) He's worked on a lot of games, from KOTOR to Guild Wars. I'm pretty sure he will be working on TESV as well, since he's down the last two games.

Yeah Jeremy Soule is the best. I know he'll come up with something great for TESV, I'd have to agree with damuncha about the vocal music in the TES universe though. Even a movie like the lotr trilogy suffered from that a bit. The enya stuff was a little out of place.

I was thinking though, maybe tesV could have a more animated inn scenerio with minstrels and house bands. That would be a very cool addition. Some morrowind mods added that and it was a great immersion booster. Maybe TESV could add some minstels with songs kind of like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7RcZZFpaEo

lmao.

Back when Oblivon came out, I rigged it so Godsmack would come on during every fight. I'd hear Godsmack start ripping through the speakers and look around and see a scamp just trodding over, lmao...

But uh... Yeah, there are songs with lyrics that DO go with TES. I wouldn't recommend Godsmack though. But truthfully I just prefer the regular TES music that comes with the games. It's good stuff. Good stuff.

The song that drops me right back into the Jerall Mountains is Jeremy Soule - Wings of Kynareth.

I too use some of the Obliv/MW soundtrack songs on an ipod playlist when I need to get to sleep (amoung many other 'sleep' playlists).

Edit: After the first hundred or two hours in OB I added to the soundtrack by dropping some more mp3s into the respective folders, mostly similar music from other RPG soundtracks, like Valkyrie Profile (the Imperial City seemed altogether sadder with some of the VP songs). If I had had the sense to get the MW soundtrack at that time, I would have used it too.

Lets hope they use Jeremy Soule again for the next game. (hey, I wonder if he's working on anything now? does he have a twitter or something he might let slip on....)

Inon Zur also did a very good job in Fallout 3 and several other titles.

OH MY GOD Doomed by RIMCO. It's actually an arrangement of the E1M8 theme "Sign of Evil" from the original DOOM, but it makes me think strongly of wandering in the planes of Oblivion, alone in my struggle against hordes of daedra. I suppose that was the intent of the song, since it's from a game about a lone space marine facing off alone against hordes of demons...

Except that no, say it ladies and gentlemen, NO Elderscrolls game has EVER featured a theme with lyrics. Ba-dum - tish.

Not that I don't know a few songs that have lyrics that do at least conjure the right feeling, I feel many of them would be better without lyrics. It's much like music with electrical guitar. The melody, the tempo, the tune might be perfect, but the sound will never match a harp or drum or flute or something that is less anachronistic.

My first vote is anyhing by Basil Poledouris. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGrm2YJdwt4

This song, Fear of the Dark (Iron Maiden covered by either Cradle of Filth, who I do not like, or Children of Bodom) always reminded me of Bloodmoon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrVUADWCrTA

I had a good laugh at that one. That's the kind of stuff my friends and I used to do as well. We'd get along just fine my friend
