2nd PC patch seems to fix save bug

So last night Steam seems to have pushed out a second patch. My game version is now 1.1.1.271 (was 1.1.0.something after the first patch). I read that it addresses the save bug, so I decided to test it.

I backed up my saves, undid the Deny Write Access fix, loaded into the game, made some quick- and autosaves, and exited a few times.

Nothing is now being written to the Steam\userdata\...\22380\remote folder, and my saves seem to be staying properly.

Now, I also read that they have once again turned off Steam Cloud for this game, so it is possible that that's the real reason that the saves are working. When I first installed the game on Tuesday evening, I had no save problems. I has read about it and tested for it, but all seemed fine. I now know that Steam Cloud was off for troubleshooting at that time. On Wednesday, my save problems started (I assume after they had turned Steam Cloud back on).

Some people are saying that the patch ruined their d3d9.dll fix, but that hasn't been the case for me. I only spent a few minutes in-game this morning to test the saves, but performance seems fine here.

Anyway, the save system seems to be working as intended at the moment, and I haven't seen any new problems. Can anyone else confirm that this is the case for them?

I can confirm that saves work now even after I removed the write restriction on the remote folder. The game still does sync with the cloud, it just doesnt seem to use those saves over the ones on your PC. (Defeating the purpose of the cloud?)

The patch did seem to download a new Fallout_Default.ini which erased my changes to disable mouse accelleration.

Patch did not resolve NPC slowdown, so you still need d3d9.dll.

Okay, I still have Cloud disabled for Steam and NV. I'll test turning it on tonight to see if files get synced to the \remote folder, and if those files overwrite my current saves. long-term, I intend to keep Cloud turned off (no desire to use it), but I want to be confident that the game is working properly and reliably.

I didn't notice any change to my mouse accel, but I put the commands in both my FalloutPrefs.ini file and Fallout_default.ini. I'll have a look at whether the commands still exist in both locations so I understand better what's happening there (thanks for the heads up).

It would be nice if the save issue has been fully resolved so we can strike that one off the list and reduce the rage being expressed on the forums.
