CD Projekt RED expanding to 500 employees, 100 in Krakow

Post » Fri May 20, 2016 2:04 am

Well this is something. For the first quarter of 2016 CD Projekt RED and gog.com has earned a health profit and is now expanding on having 500 employees for, including 100 in Krakow from 30.

For first quarter of 2016 CD Projekt RED earned $5 million dollars (USD) from gog.com.

Also CD Projekt RED said they will take on the Rockstar development model of developing one video game at a time and then moving on to the next one, which is now Cyberpunk 2077.

This is all amazing and I hope CD Projekt RED earns even more money to be a major AAA video game development company and AAA video game publishing company.

Great news, but I hope they don't expand so fast that they can't sustain it. It's a very easy trap for growing companies to fall into.

Intriguing news. Sounds like they're trying to one-up The Witcher 3 with Cyberpunk. I don't envy them that task.

Of course the real question is why they continue to breathe Kraków's polluted air when they could expand in Tricity instead, enjoy the fresh sea breeze and look out to calming forested hills as they work.

I said it before, but I definitely have my eye on Cyberpunk. Sounds like they are devoting plenty of resources for it.

This is a real concern. Bethesda had something like 40 staff for morrowind, expanded to 60 some for oblivion then expanded to 100 for skyrim and now I think they're somewhere around 140 for fallout 4 before they just opened their new studio in Montreal (which I think is getting a,staff of 60 if I remember correctly).

It took Bethesda basically 10 years to triple their staff, and I think the only game developer to make more money than Bethesda is rockstar.

So I find it intriguing that these guys are increasing their staff to 500 in one go. Either they are gonna have absolute beasts of games of the like we have never seen before, or they are expanding way too fast and are going to fall very, very hard. (The economy isn't in the best of states right now, so it doesnt seem like the wisest time to expand this much).

For a game of this size and ambition, 500 is not too many. Rockstar has even more.

Now I'm even more psyched for Cyberpunk! But what I really would like is more games set in the Witcher universe. I understand that Geralt's story is over, but we could get a game where you play as Ciri, or a prequel where you play as Vesemir or something. Heck, a game playing as Letho even would be pretty sweet. See things from the other side.

Did you get a pay rise, Ballowers? You're doing excellent work as marketing manager.

Yes but this is in Poland, so I assume it will be much cheaper to expand when you only need to pay them a third of what you would in America.

I mostly like the idea of Cyberpunk the game because, the guy who created the original pen and paper role playing game is helping in its creation, so its going to be like the original cyberpunk which was a great game.

LOL, so true. I didn't need to look at the name of the OP. I knew immediate who started this thread just by reading the title.

A lot of people? CD Project Red makes fantastic games, and the fact that they are amping up their roster could mean this Cyberpunk game they are working is going to be their best game released yet, and probably as epic in scope as anything gamesas has ever made.

The better question is why did you feel the need to come in here and say "Who cares?" If you don't, you don't particularly need to post, especially something as unconstructive as "Who cares"

Being constructive or not I'm with funny bunny "I dont care" I'm interested in cyberpunk but I'm tired of being swayed by the hype only to find out the game is subpar. So 500 1000 10.000 or just 100 it doesnt matter to me all that does is if the game in question is good and I'm enjoying it. And more employee's might not be a good thing more employee's mean more mouths to feed there going to make a lot more money (how much depends on the average of game designers wages) to pay these extra employee's so now the question is what are they going to do to make more money? Microtransactions? Multiplayer map packs? I dont know.

I just read an article about how Lionhead expanded to 300 employees (IIRC) and basically imploded. This news isn't very cheering to me as in my experience, that number of employees tends to be unmanageable, but the installation of professional managers tends to make things even worse. If they can do it then I'm impressed and happy, but right now my heart sinks. Maybe I've just been professionally managed for too many years.

The point of this topic I made was that CD Projekt RED is finally a big AAA video game development studio and is also looking to buyback their shares from the Polish stock market to go 100% fully independent. CD Projekt RED also publishes the video games that they develop in Eastern Europe and I think I read that they want to also become a video game publisher now as well.

So CD Projekt RED will now become both a AAA video game development company and possibly in the next few years a AAA video game publishing company for worldwide. Of course hiring more employees is not always a good thing to do and mismanagement can happen. However a CD Projekt RED employee said that they will follow the Rockstar development process of video games and develop one video game at a time. I sure do hope CD Projekt RED is managed well financially to not lose money.

CD Projekt RED is also the best chance we have right now to compete with Bethesda Game Studios, especially since they are developing Cyberpunk 2077 right now which will have FULLY customizable female Player Characters (PC's) and male Player Characters (PC's), Your Player Characters (PC's) can play in both First Person View (FPS) and Third Person View (TPS), as well as CD Projekt RED looking to have the Player Characters (PC's) being able to pick up and drop every single item in front of her face or his face just like in Bethesda Game Studios developed video games.

Bethesda Game Studios is no longer or will no longer be a monopoly for these video games and I'm sure they are taking a close look at CD Projekt RED and I do hope Bethesda Game Studiso develops video games with the gameplay features and gameplay mechanics added back from their classic old video games.

CD Projekt RED added armor and weapons degradation and no level scaling of NPC's in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, while Bethesda Game Studios removed the armor and weapons degradation system in both The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Fallout 4, but added back the separate armor pieces system that The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind has. Bethesda game Studios went one step forward then took two steps back. The dialogue wheel is also the worst thing to exist in video games as well.

After The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt the next AAA video game to be released for sale by CD Projekt RED is Cyberpunk 2077, then some small ones that they will be developing using Unity, then they have another big one that they will release for sale again in 2020 or 2021.

So by 2022 CD Projekt RED will have released possibly a total of 4 AAA video games or 6 AAA video games for sale.

first, more workers does not mean better game.. there are plenty of games that have had hundreds of people working on them that were not very good games, likewise some games exist that were made by 3 people that are amazing and very unique experiences..

you can not really say "this game will be good because made it", or "this many people worked on it, so its gonna be awesome".. does a McDonalds hamburger suddenly taste better because they hired an extra burger flipper?

to truly decide if a game is good or not, you have to entirely ignore who made the game and whether you like them as a company or not.. you have to look objectively at it and ask yourself "is the gameplay fun?", "is the story interesting?", "what cultural or sociological issues were the writers and developers trying to show, and how well were they represented?".. you can't just have blind faith and go "well their last game was good, and i agree with their company policies, so this next game will surely be amazing!"

CDPR hiring more people doesn't magically mean all their games will be even more awesome (ever here the term "to many cooks in the kitchen"? the more people you have working on a single product, especially in software design, the more likely there could be a major muck-up somewhere along the line due to an error in communication between team members..).. just because a developers last game was good, doesn't mean their next one will be (and visa-versa.. a developer whos last 3 games were bad is still capable of putting out a masterpiece)..

Sweet Jesus man, are you using some robot to type your texts? Why do you use the complete titles for studios and games every single time, it's very tiresome to read.

Of course in the software development business hiring more people to work on a project to develop isn't always a good solution.

However out of those 500 employees CD Projekt RED hired 100 are going to their new Krakow studio, which is helping with developing the REDengine 3 further for Cyberpunk 2077 and so on.

CD Projekt RED is also developing smaller AAA video games on the Unity video game engine to sell.

I just hope CD Projekt RED's management is up to the task to take care of business and not end up in financial situations that ends up losing them money.
