Are you sure you're starting with all of the levers down?

Heh. Never happ'nin with me. Seriously - I have so many hours and so many girls in this game.... and I'm STILL finding new stuff. I love it. I'm never going back to mmos.... I spent 8 years in WoW, and another 2 years in RIFT.... and they were nowhere NEAR as absorbing as Skyrim (not to mention finding new stuff....)

That's why I asked him to go back to a save before starting the puzzle. I *think* that if you just mutz with them over and over and over, you'll never get it. You HAVE to start with a clean slate.

F'ing hell... Great, now I have two saves; One where I manage to find the combo, but are only lvl 21, and one where I don't manage to find the combo, and are lvl 26 (and a half)... Solution was both back levers & left front lever

Ughhhhh. Well.... that's a not so great choice there hon. Me, I'd opt for the lower lever and getting through the gates, since on console you can't advance without that.... svcks. REALLY svcks. Sorry....

Yeah, it svcks.. Problem is, on lvl 21-save I basically haven't done crabs with the main quests about Alduin, while on lvl 26-save, I've killed Alduin & found a fair amount of good equip & stuff

Not really keen about giving all that stuff up, tbh...

Well.... the Folgunthur quest and associated quest line - they're not critical. Unless you're a mage and the amulet plus the staff are things you are really panting over. So.... there you are. The only other option is to buy a decent PC - and start over.

Lucky for me, I'm a warrior using Greatswords & bows for the most part. The occasional magic, but rarely since I've used so many points on two-handed weapons & bows

But hey, thanks for helping me figure out the problem!

Heh. Good job then. If you were on PC there's a mod to not show quests you can't or don't want to mess with.... But at least you have options. More or less. I hope you have a really GREAT time with the rest of the game!

I just found the problem, actually. For some reason, instead of all gates being closed, one of the gates (4th) are open when I start.. Still don't know how to open them all, but atleast it's a start!

Well, that's truly strange. Was it that way the first time you got there or do you not have a save that would show that?

That's an odd bug, to be certain. RE: the puzzle...I never remember any of them. I just start pulling on levers all the time. I always struggle with the one in Geirmund's Hall.

Idk, but I think it was like that the first time.. Weird thing is that it works just fine on the save from before I even discovered the place

Get them all closed first. That's a "reset." Then pull the correct levers.

I thought "reset" was when all levers were pointing down?

Well, the gates are supposed to all be closed when they're like that, I think.

I haven't done that dungeon for ages, and I don't have a character I'd test it with now. I'm wondering if there's a sequence of lever moves that leads to the condition of the gates closed and levers down. That's what I'd shoot for, to try to reset it.

Yeah, but the problem is that there could be hundreds (or even thousands) of combinations

Looking for a math guru because my slide rule is broken, but I don't think it's going to be too bad. 4 levers 2 positions each that's what 4x3x2x2 for 48 combos? Meh, my math is way rusty. I find it easier for myself if I check doors each time I move a lever and somehow (pure luck most likely) I get to the right combo. It can be frustrating, especially when you've done it on another character and for whatever reason the RNG monster decides to mess with you on your current character.

If those are accurate, it's impossible. 1 and 4 always work together, and you start with one open, one closed. You'll ALWAYS have one open, one closed.

I think this is supposed to start with all gates closed, and your 4th is flipped from its correct setting. Others may be able to confirm that initial state.

I'm not 100% sure of course, but I do believe it's accurate.

Yes, that's exactly what's happening to me! I start with gate 4 open (as previously stated), and 1-3 closed. Whenever I find a "solution", I end up with either gate 1 or 4 closed. Doesn't matter what guide/walkthrough I try, it's always the same result

Yes - when I loaded into the game yesterday at the point just as my girl arrived in the hallway, all gates were down, and all levers were also down. So Phoenix's game is whack for some reason....

If you litterally can't do anything, try finding a wooden plate in the dragons reach main hall or somewhere as such drop it on the ground, hold it in front of you then run at it pushing it up against the gate. I think you can pass through this way after a while. If nothing else works this might be a good last resort. If you want to know more about how to do this youtube wooden plate glitch.

Or if you think your doing something wrong (which I doubt after this long) you could look at a lets play of the dungeon and copy everything exactly.
