A Thread of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones, ASOIAF) #21

Post » Tue Jun 07, 2016 5:05 pm

The last thread ended up with discussion on whether George RR Martin lied to his editor about the identity of Coldhands.

I have to brag a bit. Last year my partner Brash (also a member of these forums) proposed a theory that would explain why Melisandre appears young in her bath. Recently this theory has been quoted in several online news sources and and has even found its way into a couple YouTube videos. A short excerpt for anyone who's interested:

Spoiler
Rewatch the scene where she takes her bath without the ruby choker, and this time, picture Selyse seeing the hag in its true form. I think it's clear the missing choker in the bath scene was not an oversight but instead was a clue for us. Mel uses tricks with most, she uses none with Selyse. It also means that Selyse is not acting under any charms, any illusions, any "ruby choker" magic mind tricks, when she agrees to take her daughter to the Wall. She already knows the truth.

Here are a couple of the articles that discuss the choker/age issue:

http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2016-04-26/game-of-thrones-fans-predicted-this-weeks-shocking-twist-over-a-year-ago

Anyway, I just wanted to say I'm proud of her. Way to go! :hugs:

Well what proof do we have? It has never been said in the books who Coldhands is/was, and the show has been known to merge some characters. Do we know that Coldhands was working autonomously or was he being controlled by BloodRaven? Still too many questions surrounding this character to say for sure, in my humble opinion.

I had also asked if Martin was known for telling untruths or bending truths to preserve a reveal or twist.

I can't say, I've never heard one way or the other. It's certainly possible Georgie intentionally mislead whoever he told that.

Does anyone else feels it was a bit forced by HBO with Theon's sister (can't remember her name) being into women? I'm only on the third book but sofar I don't see her being sixually attracted to women like that..... unless I missed something.

Next episode is gonna be good! I feel like they've done nothing but tease us this whole season and barely anything has happened!

It wasn't specifically stated in the books that Asha(Yara for show only folks) was *only* into men, but there was a rather explicit six scene in the books that Asha has with a dude named Carl.

Agreed. It's kinda pissing me off really. I liked her story line but, yeah, the above.

The show doesn't always follow the books.

Agreed. I was hoping for more out of last nights episode but nope. Seeing, as you say, I feel like we've simply had not a whole lot going on.

Soo.... sounding like something forced by HBO because boobs.

I think Arya's story might get interesting because now she has these pissed off assassin's after her. I think she'll luck out and kill a girl but then she will have to face a man.

This whole season seems to be doing nothing but build tension. Might get some release next episode but there had better be a good fanole.

Supposedly, he told his editor that, but someone else mentioned that the info came out quite a while ago, so maybe he changed his mind. It would be really, really silly if he lied about it to preserve a surprise. Kinda like telling someone that you're leading to a surprise party that you're definitely, definitely not leading them to a surprise party. ;)

Yeah that's what I was thinking when watching that scene. Yara is a hard character to pin down on the show. May be because until recently we've seen very little of her. She does seem to be a bit different from her book counterpart, Asha, so perhaps Yara would be more inclined being "into women".
