Bethesda Softworks E3 2016 Conference Discussion #2

I'm 99,9% certain the next TES will have voiced protagonist. When Todd Howard thinks a new feature is cool, he'll never drop it. He said in one pre-F4 interview that players of today expect voice acted protagonist, so...

Hopefully you are wrong, but if this ends up being the case, perhaps they will work in a legit way to turn off the protagonist voice. Surely seeing how many fans complained about it would have some effect on what they do in the future.

In todays rpg age i think it would be a mistake to go back to non voiced characters. Hasnt bothered me in fallout 4, witcher 3 or dragon age inquisition

Wouldn't mind a better f4 male voice but female was very good.

I expect that the transition from skyrim-x will be somewhat like f3-f4 but most things tinkered with/improved and i dont believe we will see a radical change

I do wish theyimplement ideasfrom better newer mods and consider some features from w3 and inquisition

W3

-horses and horse combat

-boats

-tracking (done in blood on ice so it can be done)

-unique monsters and dens

-npcs/villians (bloody baron )

-climbing- probably 0% chance

Dragon age

-climbing

-hill movement(no more falling/instant death)

-companions interact with each other and there are scripted events. F4 took a huge step forward so the bar has been set

-race related responses.

One thing that could use improvrment that all 3 failed in is the main villain. For the most final boss battles in skyrim were a lot easier than some dragon priests/hidden bosses. I want to feel/npcs react like it was world changing and maybe alternate reactions/losing factions/companions for rest of game

Uh, you're 19 in Fallout 3 whether you like it or not. And in Fallout 4, you're clearly in your early 30s (which may not be "young," but you're still forced to be a certain age, which is what Rosveen was getting at).

Shame that's not how things really work. Adding a voice doesn't automatically make things more emotional. If it doesn't have good writing (or cinematography) to go with it, then it doesn't matter how good the actors are, it's still just going to come across as melodramatic. Case in point with Dragon Age 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8N9I5XawLVY (DA2 spoiler) or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jzmELXlISdI.

And most ironically, The Witcher 3 succeeded in making a very emotionally-driven scene with its voiced protagonist...https://youtu.be/aior8jfINtI?t=86 (huge TW3 spoilers).

Shame that voiced RPG protagonists will always have a typical "neutral" Americanadian accent or a London accent for fantasy RPGs. If someone actually started using other kinds of voices, like a southern drawl, ebonics, French accent, Cockney accent, or something atypical that's not regarded as cool or dignified by the mainstream, then the pro-voicers would start to understand the anti-voicers.

Guys, you know we have threads for discussing ideas on future TES games. ;)

(ie, the voiced protagonist debate)

Let's keep this on topic to the E3 show.

Funny thing about this is that with mods, crashing would happen more often.

Sigh. More rumors say Bethesda Softworks will show of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim remastered at their E3 2016 conference.

However it says it will be for PlayStation 4 (PS4) and Xbox One.

Meaning no PC version with support for a 64-bit .exe, DirectX 11, and Physically Based Rendering (PBR).

I guess Bethesda Softworks and Bethesda Game Studios doesn't care to update the PC version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim that much on PC?

I feel like they are ignoring us.

Oh how much I would of enjoyed making mods with Physically Based Rendering (PBR) :(.

I wouldn't expect, nor would I want, an Obsidian Fallout game in 2016. It would give them even less time to develop it than they were given in New Vegas. I would hope they give at least twice the development time than previously given. I would hope they'd release it in between TESVI and Fallout 5, though I'd be fine with a game closer to TES:VI's release. EA is releasing BF1 and Titanfall 2 in a close time-frame because they're "different enough" and will still sell. I'd think an Obsidian Fallout and Bethesda TES are different enough as well.

Agreed. Though it was a contract.

I highly doubt this will happen.

Based on a rumor that is plenty likely to not be true at all? Say this when it actually comes to pass...

Shinobi602 is so far a reliable leaker of video games. Is he not? Just look at his track record on neogaf.com.

Well he didn't specifically say The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is getting remastered he just said a Bethesda title will be remastered.
