Bethesda Skyrim appreciation thread

Post » Sun Jun 19, 2016 11:19 am

I've been playing Skyrim from day one. Five years later and I'm still excited about each new character. I never thought I'd enjoy playing a game so much.

Thank you, Bethesda!

Omg seriously? You are giving free to Steam users? Steam users already experienced the game with Mods and what not. But giving free to Steam users? So that they can experience the same game over again just makes no sense! But Playstation 3 owners don't get nothing? lol oh man That is like double slap to Playstation 3 owners once again. Oh ... this feels bad as hell. I can't even .. i don't even ... i can't even think of what to say. This is just ... man ... this svcks.

(by the way i still haven't forgotten about Fallout 3 and New Vegas. New Vegas is broken on the PS3)

I love Bethesda. They have given me literally thousands of hours of making something possible that I could never do in real life, be an adventurer in a fantasy world. I cannot express properly the gratitude I have for all the fun I have had from your games for the last 22 years.

Thank you Bethesda. :foodndrink: :fallout: :thanks: :tes:

I was wondering about the release method. Good to know.

I've been expecting the remaster to come at some point, eversince Todd let it slip during an interview and make no mistake: there are no "accidents" in this business. They were going for it and now it's coming.

To be honest, it'd be unfair for Skyrim not to get a facelift and native x64 support, given that:

  • the original game's graphic assets, are downsampled copies of a high resolution base package. In short, Bethesda had them in store anyway.

  • it's a game, still played and loved by a large number of people.

  • in terms of capabilities and performance, consoles have caught up

  • the game may have been released to be played on last-gen machines, but it was never really last-gen. The devs knew it and we also knew it -hence the modding explosion afterwards.

Still, it does require time and effort to release a remaster that delivers a plausible result. As someone who has spent a fair amount of time in this game and has gotten tons of fun out of it, I can't but appreciate the gesture and thank Bethesda for it.

So this is the thread people come to kiss ass ;). Maybe I can pay bethesda accordingly for the next elder scrolls game, instead of them appreciating my hard earned cash lol. Jokes aside, loved Skyrim exceptional game! Morrowind still is your best work though I wish that could be remastered! and oblivion for me was the scrap metal in an otherwise fantastic series of RPG's.

For me Morrowind was my least favorite. But it's a fantastic game. Even though it's my least favorite, if I rated it I would give it a high 90s out of 100.

I imagine you didn't start by playing Morrowind ;). The problem with going back to it is that the graphics are hard to swallow, mods do help though. The things I rate morrowind for that the other games dont have are, 1) better main story 2) 13 possible guilds you can join and become the head of around 11 3) Every place you explore is different beautiful deadric ruins etc 4) Morrowind made you work to become good! This actually gives you some sense of achievement. The game starts incredibly hard, and after much commitment you can eventually become a god in power 5) Levitation spell made things possible to hide beautiful unique armour sets, in random hidden locations 6) It is actually a role playing game, different dialogue options make a difference to the outcome!!! Look up SKYWIND on youtube and see how much more beautiful the game the modding community are making is. I honestly could not care less about skyrim remastered, but if SKYWIND was completed, I would buy it just to play it on a console.

My fellow armchair adventurer, the next best thing to levitation, is to fire up Fallout4, get a power armor (the frame alone will do), do a combat drop from a skyscraqer and keep your eyes open throughout the fall. If you don't faint there, you never will :)

I've got absolutely no problem with MW's graphics, or even the lack (by today's standards, not mine) of voiced dialogue. It's combat system though... yeah. Coming from TES IV in particular, this was the showstopper for me. Still, I deeply respect every other aspect of it and I'd love to take Skywind for a spin when it's complete.

My heartfelt thanks for developing an enhanced edition of Skyrim, it has always been my dream since I completed the main story and the dlcs.

I'm obviously trying to stay with my feet on the ground and not to have too high expectations regarding improvements, but I'm sure I'll be very happy with whatever comes out next october. I've just a little request regarding the npcs:

please, don't use the models from Fallout 4, the ones implemented in Skyrim are already awesome!

I want to be honest, the models in fallout 4 really svck and don't have the charisma of their Skyrim counterparts.

From what i've seen Skyrim special edition is going to be visually wonderful, I don't know if there will be any improvement by the animations point of view.

Is there a Collector's special edition?

You're right. I did not start with Morrowind. I started with Daggerfall in the mid 90's.

My list of favorite TES games, 1 is favorite, 4 is least favorite.

1. Daggerfall

2. Oblivion

3. Skyrim

4. Morrowind

I'm transferring here my appreciation post.

Thank you Bethesda for the Skyrim Special Edition! I try to keep the hype at bay, because too many expectations could ruin the game experience. I'm glad to see there will be improved environment graphics, I hope there will be improved textures on npcs and enemies of every kind, and I hope Bethesda is not going to port Fallout 4 npcs 3d models because those of Skyrim are much much better.

I started with Arena. I don't exactly know now how long ago that was.... 20+ years probably! The graphics in the first three were par for what was actually available at the time. I didn't dislike them, nor was I gnashing teeth over not having "movie quality" graphics (well.... since I didn't watch movies....)

By Oblivion, I'd got firmly into having mods to fix stuff. But the first three - well, there's only so much you can do with a 20+ year old game (or 15+ year etc.) So Oblivion became the game of my life really at that point. Then I landed in WoW - for a long time. But there comes a point with any game where things just don't go a direction you can deal with. So it was with WoW (and Rift afterward).

But then.... there was Skyrim.

There's still Skyrim. And mods. Thank the goddesses!

I started with Morrowind and it's my favorite of the series, due to the diverse cultures between the Empire and the Dunmer. Skyrim is my second favorite and it's the most played at the moment. The mods have added longevity to both games.
