Fears, and Hopes regarding Special Edition

Post » Thu Jun 30, 2016 12:42 am

Disclaimer: I am a console gamer, I have played the "older" version of Skyrim on the 360, and will be getting Special Edition for the PS4

Yeah, super excited by the announcement of Skyrim: Special Edition, but with the excitement also came fears, concerns and hopes. My fears mostly stem from the bugs, and glitches, that never got resolved, and probably still exist to this day, but it also raises one of my hopes, of seeing a "Unofficial Skyrim Legendary Edition Patch" as a mod, like it was in the PC release. Another one of my hopes, for the PS4 version is to see a mod that simply allows you to cheat, I loved using the Oghma Infinium bug when it existed, and it more than pissed me off, or rather broke my will to continue playing Skyrim, when it was fixed (honestly, you can cheat in the PC version but why not in the console version? The game isn't even online, so you won't be bothering any one else with it, should you choose to do so) .I tend to play the game over and over, making a new character almost monthly, but I just finding leveling a drag... and the good weapons and armor are locked until you reach level 25-30 ish, so it's nice to have an option to cheat your way to maximize out your stats asap. Another one of my fears comes from the fact that PS3 version was basically... very poor, I just hope that the PS4 version works as well as the XBox One/PC version of it. Anyway, just wanted to get this off my chest. Thanks for reading if you got this far.

Kane is right, there's a dedicated thread for that. Anyway...

Dpredator, if you could see my face while I'm typing this, you'd notice a broad smile. First you're asking if the bugs and glitches are going to be fixed and right next, you're sort of complaining about Bethesda's decision to fix the Oghma Infinium glitch. There's no good or bad bug/glitch. Ah well... :P

I can't speak for the Unofficial Skyrim Patch team and I really don't know if they're going to release it on the consoles too. I don't see why not though.

As for the PS4, my knowledge is as good as yours. I only know what I saw on the E3 showcase and what I saw on the PS4 part, seemed alright.

I don't know why people have such high hopes. It's going to be the same game with better graphics and console mod support. Nothing more, nothing less, and that's a good thing. Also, complaining that game breaking bugs get fixed seems a bit counterintuitive...

Its human nature, hype something to the nth degree and then crash to the depths when realisation sets in and their expectations aren't met as they never could be.

Its already been confirmed it'll feature higher res textures, extra shader effects, sun rays, DoF and the like via Gameworks most likely. Cosmetic details. Everything else is nonsensical hype. Might as well hope for rainbows and unicorns!

Exactly, but I can't blame Bethesda for that. They didn't promise anything more than a graphical update in the first place. All of these expectations and wishes are just completely far-fetched.

Beth has already said several times before that they were done with Skyrim and yet some are hoping for some extra content aside from the graphical update and console mod support. It's complete nonsense to think they're going to add things like items/weapons and quests, the game is nearly 5 years old. They're done with the content. Some don't seem to understand what a remaster actually is. I've heard people call it a reboot or a remake. Nope. It's the same game updated for current consoles. And personally since I haven't played Skyrim in about 3 years I'm excited to play it again at some point. The remaster makes it easy for people with current consoles to jump back in and be right in sync with the graphics, but I will not expect any new content because that would be just wishful thinking.

Actually this is not true at all. Bethesda Game Studios never sad they are done with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Gstaff in that Bethblog back in April 2013 said moving on to our next adventure and that they will never truly be done with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

I can't find that Bethblog article.

Sadly, Bethblog no longer exists on the internet. But I found http://www.idigitaltimes.com/skyrim-redguard-dlc-fans-say-game-still-unfinished-pete-hines-responds-354866

There we go that's what I was looking for.

"We've invested so much of ourselves into Skyrim and will never truly say goodbye to it."

I am remaining hopeful that Bethesda Game Studios will develop and sell at least one or two expansion packs for sale for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition.

Giving us the expansion pack to go to the Summerset Isles to finish off the Civil War quests and to elect a High King or a High Queen or both.

What are your thoughts that 6 months after they release The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition they will sell at least one last expansion pack?

They even name it The Elder Scrolls V: Skyime Special Edition, instead of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Definitive Edition. I hope the naming is for that special last expansion pack to be sold.

Short answer: Yes. Think of it as GOTY for new console generation. Also, as for Steam, you have to have all the DLCs in the first place.

I never took advantage of the Oghma infinium bug, but I never was interested in it. I like to follow the rules of the game.

regarding future dlcs, I believe Bethesda is going to release some paid updates, for the simple reason that once the game is 64bit, a lot of new possibilities become available, and it is not wise to ignore them when this game has so huge fanbase willing to pay for new content.

Don't get your hopes up. The latest official PC version still has a lip sync bug, which was only recently fixed by modders. Beth could easily roll out a patch, especially since it's a one byte change but they didn't. Also check the absurd amount of bugs fixed by USLEEP and left by the developers.

The special edition is a just a cash grab. I'm not against it, but know that when you get it, the same bugs that plagued the PS3 version will probably still be in the PS4 version. Just with shinier graphics.

I doubt that because PS4 has a completely different architecture if compared to ps3. Bethesda cannot port and at the same time translate to 64bit the 3d engine. It would be a great mess. So, the bugs will probably be the same as the pc or xboxone version.
