Will this run heavily modded Skyrim?

Post » Wed Jun 29, 2016 10:29 pm

After getting my first taste of mods for fallout 4 on Xbox one I decided to take the leap and invest in a pc.

I'm mostly looking forward to play Skyrim and maybe a couple online games.

I know very little about computer hardware my current pc is a 2005 HP lol so please try to speak in a language I'll understand.

I'm looking to buy a prebuilt PC capable of running Skyrim on ultra settings with a lot of mods. My budget is around 800 but the lower the better, I guess.

I got one suggestion from another forum here are the specs for the PC:

ASUSM32AD US021S Desktop Computer

Processor 3.4 GHz Intel Core i5 4460

Cache Not Specified By Manufacturer

System Bus 5 GT/s

Chipset Socket: FCLGA1150

Type: H81

Memory Type: 1600 MHz DDR3 SDRAM

Installed: 8 GB

Graphics Card Type: Dedicated

Installed: NVIDIA GeForce GTX760 with 3 GB

Storage

Hard Drive Installed: 1 TB 7200 rpm

Type: SATA

Will this one work or should I look for something better?

Thanks in advance for any advice

It will probably run on highest settings with a moderate mod load. It really depends on what kind of mods you're talking about.

You'd need a "ultra" gaming machine to run at ultra with lots of demanding mods. And it's possible to overload any system.

Some better suggestions: (in that order) from max to min.

-I was going to use armor, character, combat, weather, quests, and overhaul mods if I can.

-Doesn't that top one have almost the same specs as the one I posted except for the graphics card? Would I be better off just buying the Asus for $450 and then upgrading it if I have to.

The thing with that Nvidia GTX 760 3GB card is, that this is an OEM GPU. So, actually you can't buy it from a store (who cares), but it has a lower performance from a native GTX 760 graphics card.

I would say it's on par with an GTX 660. (give or take)

Is that bad?

Not really, just a GTX 960 will get more performance out of an i5 CPU.

Also the 3GB of memory is more of a gimmick as something substantial useful on that card. I doubt that this OEM card will use more than half of the ram.

The GTX 760 OEM, comes with either 1.5GB or 3GB of Ram.

It's really difficult to the card too utilize the whole 3GB of ram, that card is not that fast for that task.

Even so, it's more that enough for playing Skyrim with mods. But be aware!

And ENB can lower your frame-rates considerably. So it depends what mods you wanna install on your computer.

------

The best thing (for not paying too much) - go with your built for 450 bucks.

And if you encounter any slowdowns, you can upgrade on a faster GPU in the future.

Also i don't know the *new* recommended specs for Skyrim Special Edition.

For the original Skyrim, those above are decent specs, but the new edition will most probably use the exact same engine as Fallout 4. That means it will be much heavier!
