I was watching a fairly interesting medieval film today called "Ironclad". I wasn't able to finish it (it was on cable) but made me think and want to play Skyrim. I can't think of other films that made me think this way. I mean one of my all time favorite films, not just of the period, but all time favorite films, is John Boorman's "Excalibur". I recently watched "Excalibur" (again for the umpteenth time) on my new blu ray but for some reason Skyrim just doesn't come to mind when I watch it. Maybe I just get so caught up in the Arthurian lore that Skyrim just doesn't come up. Or perhaps Arthurian lore is just to powerful that it keeps Skyrim lore from breaking through during the film. "Ironclad" seems like a solid medieval film that kind of lets your mind roam free a bit into the possibilities of its universe. So may be thats it.

But now I am curious if other people have films that make them think of Skyrim and want to play Skyrim!

Everything makes me want to play Skyrim. I guess for a specific example, Lord of the Rings certainly puts me in the mood for swordplay. Though, so do comedies with no fantasy elements whatsoever, so I revert to "everything makes me want to play Skyrim."

Movies? No. But I once was inspired to create a character based on Ygritte from Game of Thrones while watching Season 3 of said show. At the end I didn't, however, because I couldn't find an alternate start that fitted. In the olden days at Saturday evenings while eating potato chips I would often watch the Appendices of The Lord of the Rings Extended Edition to get in the mood for Oblivion.

Conan the Barbarian for obvious reasons.

Uh. I don't do movies. Or tv. I play Skyrim because it's the most marvelous game ever.

Anything really. Sometimes it's movies. Sometimes I mimic characters from other fantasy games; and sometimes I mimic characters from in game lore.

Excalibur was my favorite movie as a kid... well that tied with "Uncommon Valor" but back on topic Robin Hood with Costner makes me want to play a my archer build and spend all night doing nothing but hunting.


I havent seen the Crowe version yet.

Can't say that any movies in particular inspire me to play Skyrim but I saw both Excalibur and Conan the Barbarian in the theater and loved them both (didn't love the Conan sequel with Kareem Abdul Jabar and Grace Jones though -- that one was too Hollywood for my tastes).


I still get chills whenever I hear Carmina Burana. It's one of my favorite pieces of classical music.

I learned the latin words to "O Fortuna" just so I could sing along (badly). I'm not into the rest of the Carmina Burana though, its a big series of poems and the accompanying music scores are not as blood rousing as O Fortuna.


Did the same with the Draconic 'Dragonborn chant' that you hear in Sovngard. My youngest learned it too....so on car journeys we could drive my wife crazy doing a duet of it


Other films coming to mind.....an olde but goody is "The Vikings" with Kirk Douglas and Tony Curtis

None, muh brain case is full of all the books I've read for more years than I'll mention . I find movies deviate so much from books to be unwatchable for ruining what's already in my head. (No, no it is NOT dark in their. )

That's true, although I felt like the original Conan the Barbarian made significant efforts to bring the spirit of R.E. Howard's stories to life, and Excalibur, well there isn't a single definitive "book" or that one. Steinbeck's translation of Le Morte d'Arthur is probably the closest, and the movie seemed to draw significantly from it.

I used to be able to play the tune from O'Fortuna on a bamboo flute (David Carradine style). I am out of practice, but I could practice up and provide some musical background for your singing. lol

Definitely! When I returned from London after a semester in college in 1989, I brought three large bottles of Strongbow back with me in my carry on bag, something you could not do nowadays. Hard cider was unheard of in the states back then. Luckily, they started exporting the stuff to the states and I can now purchase it in the local supermarket.

I imagine Krull and Gymkata would put me in the mood but I havent seen either since way before I started playing.


Krull was basically like a Skyrim side quest.
