[REL] Telvanni Conjuration Trainer

Post » Fri Jul 15, 2016 5:00 pm

So I finally decided to try my hand at some basic functions in the CS and release a mod. The mod is small and simple because I still have a lot to learn, but I have to start somewhere :P

Enjoy! http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/44443/?

Mod: Telvanni Conjuration Trainer

Version: 1.0

Author: Jasons073 aka Kogorn

Overview

________

As a long-time House Telvanni player, I always found it strange how few trainers House Telvanni has, especially for core caster skills. Although the Mages Guild has trainers who are able to train the player's casting skills to at least a moderate level, the lack of trainers in House Telvanni means the player has to use spellmaking to create "cantrips," and simply cast them over and over until the skill levels up. While this improves realism to some extent, it also makes playthroughs inefficient.

This mod attempts to partially resolve this problem by providing a Telvanni sorcerer of "Spellwright" rank to Tel Vos, Central Tower, named Dorvas Drenim. The trainer has no unique dialog at this time, but I engaged in some "environmental storytelling" by placing him stationary next to a table of dwemer artifacts in Master Aryon's dwemer museum (I figured he might be a tour guide/travelling scholar). Of all the House Telvanni masters, I found it made the most sense for Master Aryon to host a trainer or two to train new members. The Telvanni and Main quest lines suggest he's on the lookout for "new blood" to help overthrow Gothren, and I figured that by hosting trainers to help train new members he could bring them over to his side.

The trainer has vanilla gear (so he's not overpowered if you choose to attack him), and is level 16. Although he has high conjuration skill (71), it is not so high that the player avoids having to build up the higher levels of skill and/or seeking out the master trainer of conjuration. In fact, there is another trainer in the game (in House Hlaalu), who provides training up near this rank (and who isn't even a primary caster class). Thus, I feel this mod is balanced and lore-friendly.

Installation

_________

Installing this mod is simple. Just unzip the file in your "Morrowind" directory. From there, check the box in Wrye Mash or whatever you use to install mods, and then play!

Playing the Mod

______________

As stated previously, you can find the trainer in Tel Vos, Central Tower. His name is Dorvas Drenim, and he is standing next to a table of dwemer artifacts.

Conflicts/Incompatibilities

_______________________

I am unaware of any mods that change the inside of Tel Vos, so I imagine this mod is compatible with most other mods out there. However, mods the heavily change the inside (not the outside) of the cell "Tel Vos, Central Tower" will probably conflict.

Stuporstar--for teaching me how to make customized trainer NPCs, and for encouraging me to try my hand at modding (though I only have enough skill to create small mods like this at this time)

Nice. I never touched the Telvanni quests though, too crazy even for me lol. (I end up killing a couple of the leaders while getting Hortator anyways lol)

Thanks for your kind words guys! Might decide to add some dialog to the new NPC in the future :)

Right now I'm also working on creating a patch that makes Stuporstar's Tea Mod compatible with the Bathing Mod (The Tel Mora bathhouse and new Tel Mora Tea Shop are placed in the same location). If I'm satisfied with it and can secure permissions from Stuporstar I may release it or let her bundle it as an addon for the Tea Mod so that the conflict no longer occurs.

For permissions, since it's a tweak of the Bathing Mod esp, you'll have to contact whoever is currently working on it--it's changed hands a couple times. It shouldn't be an issue if it requires downloading the original for the resources though.

Nice mod, filling up missing little details like this is always a big + in my book.
