OBMMOBMM-Extended vs. TesModManager

Post » Sat Jul 16, 2016 2:59 am

I want to know what your experience you have about stop using OBMM or OBMM-Extended and start using TesModManager, especially if there is a difference between OBMM and TesModManager in general.

Also, I would like to know if there is anything I should know about when installing omod's in TesModManager in comparison with OBMM. Are these tools similar when installing an omod(s)?

TesModManager has some issue installing older omods. For example it crashed when istalling DarnUI while editing ii settings.

Kepp OBMM-Extended installed for these omods. At least until these issues are fixed.

I read that TesModManager has problems installing OBSE plugins IIRC, so better verify that if you want to use it, to avoid nasty surprises. Just a thought.

Thanks guys, just what I wanted to know. I'll use OBMM-Extended then.

Some mod authors (like myself) do not support people using OBMM or OBMM-E, and if you seek support from them the only response you will get is to upgrade to TMM, which is the current version of OBMM (or better still, use Wrye Bash instead).

I know that and trust me, I wouldn't even ask for support when I know OBMM are useless for advanced mod management.

But I've had said it before I only use OBMM for 2-3 mods due to the fact that WB cannot do (updating Oblivion.ini in a setup script) a few things while OBMM can.

No, TMM and NMM has nothing to do with the other tool as these tools is a separate tool for mod management. The only thing that's common is the mod management nothing else.

Thanks. I will just stick with NMM and Wyre Bash if needed for Oblivion or Skyrim.

I had not heard of TES Mod Manager before. And I couldn't find it on the Nexus.

btw, I'm fairly sure that Wrye Bash can tweak the Oblivion.ini file if you create an installation wizard and use the proper coding. It will create an .ini tweak that has to be applied in additional steps, but it can be done.

TES Mod Manager can be found in the Skyrim section of Nexus.

Found it. Thanks. I will look into that.

Would you say that it is hands down better than previous iterations of OBMM and OBMM Extended? I am definitely concerned about any issues relating to OBSE plug-ins because SDR has several that need to be installed.

I want to keep my installer options limited because there's only so much time I am willing to devote to technical support.
