Hunter build - recommended mods?

Post » Sun Jul 24, 2016 12:47 pm

Hi all,

I'm playing a hunter on Master difficulty. She's not a thief or a warrior. She dabbles in alchemy and smithing, uses some illusion and restoration magic, and her weapon of choice is the bow. She doesn't go into cities any more frequently than needed. She almost never sleeps indoors with the exception of when she visits the Hunter's Guild Outpost in Whiteun. I'm not planning on doing any of the vanilla game quests or joining any of the vanilla game factions. The evolution of the build will see her become a hunter of the undead such as vampires, draugr, necromancers, etc. (she'll view them as abominations).

I have the following relevent mods currently installed:

  • Frostfall

  • Realistic Needs and Diseases

  • Enhanced Lights and FX - (especially for the weather)

  • Hunting in Skyrim - A Huner's Guidle (not interested in Hunterborn)

  • Hidden Hideouts of Skyrim

  • Reverse Crafting

  • Tree Balance - Speech Tree (for the yielding and intimidation skills)

Additional mods I intend to add:

  • Winter is Coming - Cloaks

  • The Hideaway - A Buildable Cave Home

  • Expanded Towns and Cities

  • Helgen Reborn (debating this one)

A couple obvious areas that need to be improved with the right mod:

  • I'd like her to get a horse but I don't like the vanilla game problems with horses: too aggressive/dumb to leave unsupervised and too few stables. Shadowmere is not an option and Arvak won't be available until much too late in this build.

  • She needs a home (mostly for storage) that suites a hunter/hermit (not thrilled with the hunter's home options way out in Riften)

  • Any suggestions for a hunter-compatible follower?

  • What about mods that refine archery?

  • Any hunter-friendly mod suggestion are very welcome!

Thanks folks

Either Convenient Horses or Immersive Horses handles the vanilla problems with horses. I use Convenient Horses. You already have ETaC, which adds additional stables in towns and additional horses you can buy. ETaC is fully compatible with Convenient Horses (and Touring Carriages).

Touring Carriages adds some additional stables around the world in remote areas at crossroads for the carriage horses to rest. Sometimes I leave my horse there or stop there to rest at one of the Touring Carriage stables. There is nothing to do there other than hire a carriage, but the stables with a few bales of hay are atmospheric.

There is also a mod called Loot Later you may want to check out that adds craftable loot sacks.

Thanks Turija,

I checked the mods your recommend and I think I can work a horse into my PC's modus operandi. In the meantime, I'm taking the approach of having her establish a number of homes in the wilds. There's a mod for a cave home which is very close to the Hearthfire Heljarchen Hall location. I got that one rolling last night. There's also a tree-house home between Riverwood and Whiterun (really wish it was between Riverwood and Falkreath) but I havne't set it up yet. The Hidden Hideaways is another good one for finding shelter in the wilds. Most of this makes it possible to work without a horse (in fact, how can you leave your horse outside with these types of shelters!?) but I think riding from village to village or from stable to stable would be pretty nice.

I still need to investigate Loot Later.

If any other mods come to mind, please share!
