Muffle enchantment on higher levels

Post » Sat Aug 06, 2016 1:09 pm

Thanks again for the tips!

Now I'm trying to figure a way to amass a huge number of the best possible arrows.

I don't have dragon armor perk on smithing (stopped at daedric) and it seems we can't craft daedric arrows without Dawnguard.

So I assume the best arrows we can get in large amounts is the ebony arrow since it's easy to find them on blacksmith?

Nice one I've never used the AF myself might give it a try

You can find find daedric arrows randomly but its probably a levelled item i.e. they won't show up until you reach a certain one. If you want large numbers you can farm them from guards doing archery practise pickpocket their steel ones and replace with a daedric then pull them out of the target

Thanks for the input, Davy!

I just ran on a startling scenario now.

I was enchanting my assassin equipment and I noticed that the more I used fortify sneak enchantment on, the easier I was getting detected.

At first I enchanted 4 pieces with fortify sneak (with about 40% sneaking each piece) and I noticed that whenever I crouched I remained detected, even with clearly nobody around.

Then I started testing and taking one piece by one and the more I took off the enchanted gears the harder it was for me to get detected.

I tested that on dragonsreach since I used the archane table in there to work. It went to the point that I was wearing nothing and was hidden, then I wore a SINGLE 40-ish% sneaking gear and got immediately detected.

Anyone has experienced that? I'm quite confused. I'm looking all around for a guide or for a possible sneak cap (my sneak skill is at lvl 99 atm) but I can't figure this out. :\

It's a known bug, but old and forgotten by most. Sneak and Lockpicking enchantments and potions alike decrease the skills rather than enhance them. The bug exists only on the original game as released. There was a day one patch that corrected the bug so most people, even at release, never experienced it.

The very bottom of this page describes the day one patch (11/11/11)

Like you, I played completely unpatched for years on my xbox 360 that is not internet connected. It's only recently that I bought the legendary edition.

There's that then! day 1 patch... interesting. Thanks for that.

do I have to look for that particular patch or just installing any DLC fix that automatically?

I've downloaded Dragonborn and Dawnguard on pc but yet have to learn how to install them on XBOX.

You'll only be able to get the latest patch through xbox live or by purchasing the legendary edition on disc.

And that will be the latest patch, right, not a "pick which patch to update to" kind of thing?

Yup. Latest patch only. The patch is free, which would correct the sneak enchantments. But smithing will no longer level worth a crap and archery's bullseye perk is rendered useless by the kill scenes. You can get through the Dark Brotherhood questline as a vamp, but water is no longer completely transparent when you swim right at the surface.

Trade offs. :)

That's what I thought. I just got the latest patches as they came out, so was not sure :)

(and don't forget the "fix" for "that book"...)

I've found boots with muffle enchantment for sale twice at Moth gro-Bagol (Markarth's court smith) and once or twice from Glover Mallory in Raven Rock. Otherwise, yeah hard to come by at later levels.

No weapon enchants work with Elemental Fury shout. I find how far you can smith up weapons kind of makes enchanting them redundant. Fiery souls may be one of the better ones. Chaos elemental damage and absorb stamina provide some nice special effects

If you already have the muffle effect, fortify sneak is pretty much redundant

Just throwing my off-topic comment here: that's the reason I don't go for the "holy trinity" anymore. My gameplay has been a lot healthier eversince.

By "holy trinity", do you mean the crafting trinity (alchemy, enchanting, & smithing)?

I perhaps do use the "holy trinity" to an extent, at least on apparel and maybe smithing up weapons, but I would rather have the option to use Elemental fury for weapons even though I don't really use it

I did this trinity right off start as I wanted to craft the best possible equipment to die less (since I started with mage). I don't regret. It's kinda worrying to use so many perks but it pays off since having great defense, atk power and boosted enchantments realy overcomes perks you might lose.

The only thing really bothering me now is that sneak enchantment bug. I wanted the max sneak in game to fuly enjoy the stealth experience.

Currently using full daedric set for battlemage scenarios and nightingale armor and hodd combined with daedric gauntlets and boots. Badass look for an assassin :)

Yes.

This doesn't mean I've abolished crafting. But I pick one crafting skill to perk and that's usually enchanting, given the kind of the characters I like playing as, with Alchemy and Smithing serving as levelup fodder, if you can believe it :)

Cool! I also agree, but like the act of crafting so I find myself falling into the "all-crafter" rut :D

Smith weapons and armor to max, put an enchantment or two on them, then use some nice alchemic poisons and Alduin is the least of Skyrim's worries

You aren't missing too much. I've played many hours on the unpatched game where 100 in sneak and the 5 stealth perks are all you have (plus vamp if you want it). And I've played with the same, plus four 40% sneak enchantments and the shrouded hood for another 25%. You can certainly tell the difference, but you still have to respect lighting to avoid being detected.

If you stay in the dark with what you have you'll do very well and I think you'll be quite happy. In fact, I have a vamp assassin character right now that I didn't bother to use enchanting. Her sneak skill is leveled to 100 and fully perked. Thats it. Sneak is very good without boosts.

I don't think I've ever done the trinity. Too lazy! :) Maybe once. Usually it's no crafting or just one. My characters have become more and more one skill, low level.

A vamp skilled only in enchanting so she can use her vampiric drain at will.

A destruction mage skilled only in destruction. (my fave so far to run the main quest and civil war)

An archer skilled only in archery.

Assassin skilled only in sneak.

Those are my three faves. I've played around with a level one kitty vamp lord dressed in Miraak's robes and blood rings. Together with shouts he's pretty formidable. Killed Karstaag with him. :)

Playing around with a level one dragon born right now. Attempting a werewolf transformation exploit to eliminate her shout cool down. See how it goes. I did one using the restoration loop to eliminate her cool downs. It was a lot of fun, I mean a lot of fun whipping out shout combos. But running the restoration loop necessarily leveled her alchemy to 100. The new character sits outside the underforge awaiting night time and ultimately her new life as a werewolf. Then it's off to find a follower and attempt to equip the 5 amulets of talos she is carrying.

I've gone past that. Nowadays, I use bound weapons, with the exception being the Ghostblade, for the 'x' wolf I may not feel like dismounting before killing :P
