Original 1997 Fallout game available

Post » Fri Jul 09, 2010 2:33 am

Hey all,

I know I sometimes see people looking for the original 1997 release of Fallout here. I know of a copy for sale, but in keeping with forum rules, I will not post it here. If you are interested and want the link to an original boxed Fallout, please message me. If a moderator gives me the ok, I'll post the link here.

Have fun!

You can a trilogy pack from most places that sell software, it comes with FO1 and 2 + tactics.

I just bought the Original Trilogy. So far, and I have only played Fallout 1 for about half an hour, it seems pretty fun. I don't really like the forced upon Turn Based combat system, unlike in Fallout 3 and Fallout Tactics where it's mostly real-time combat.

Yeah, you are right, but there are many die-hard followers, including myself, who look specifically for the original 1997 version, not a re-release.

Few games come with a manual like the original Fallout manual. (I lost mine to hurricane Katrina, though I still have the box :))

I couldnt find one ANYWHERE in my town. I checked several stores until I finally just ordered one.

And a very nice box it is, back in the time where PC Game boxes were the size of microwaves. :P
Without the manual, how will you be able to cook your mushroom muffins? ;)

Most today's manuals only serve to explain the game mechanics and nothing else, while most manuals in the 90's gave a lot of background information about the world you were about to get yourself immersed in. And sometimes they were written "in character" with misc notes handwritten at some places.

Ultima Underworld, Daggerfall, Arena, Baldur's Gate and Fallout are good examples of that.

You've got it backwards. It was turn-based originally and well done TB, at that. You're not being forced into anything, the game isn't promoted as being realtime.

It's tough as nails to find Fallout 1 without the other 2 added. I even bought one of those sets since my copy of Fallout 1 got broken and Fallout 2 got stolen with my case of CDs. Turns out Fallout 1 on it would always crash after I'd get to Vault 15, and Fallout 2 wouldn't even play.
