Is there any new content in the Special Edition base game?

Exactly. The correct answer to the OP's question is "nothing has been announced." Everything else is just speculation by individual forum members. I personally would not be surprised to see a significant DLC offered for sale at some point. But I am not going to hold my breath for it either.

Personally I think the chances of us getting a new Skyrim add-on are vanishingly small. I would absolutely love them to do it, I think they'd make decent bank on it and if they were to announce it before SE releases and release it just a few weeks after its release it'd probably put a rocket up the games sales figures.

If we're going to dream, let's dream big: make it a Shivering Isles sized expansion. With The Elder Scrolls VI obviously so far off, something like that would make the wait just a little more bearable.

It's fun to dream.

Actually, no. The original question, right there in the thread title, asks "Is there any new content in the Special Edition base game?" Possible future DLC are irrelevant. If there was absolutely nothing mentioned in the official announcement, the trailer or the product description in any online store, then there is no reason to assume the answer is anything other than no. Bethesda would be utterly insane to hide major additions or improvements instead of advertising them, drumming up sales.

Okay, after reading the OP again, technically you are correct that the OP was discussing the base game not new DLC. However, if you go back and read the thread, the posts I was responding to and the posts they were responding were all discussing potential future DLC (which started at post #4 and has taken up most of the thread since then).

I would argue that potential DLC is relevant to the OP's last question, since it may be worth getting SSE for access to future DLC that would only be available on SSE, although I would wait for such DLC to be released rather than buying on spec.

I wouldn't advise anyone to spend $60 based on a very unlikely maybe. I agree with you that if it's a deciding factor, then the OP should wait until the official announcement.

Yeah, after what happened with PS3 and issues with lag and bloat and then what happened with PS4 and mods, I wouldn't advise buying on official announcements, or even an actual release. Safer to wait until its actually released and then make sure it works properly before spending money, if the money is an issue.

Are we still confident there will be a PS4 Special Edition? If it was built to support mods, did Sony just veto the whole thing?

Yes, there will be, simply without mod support.

I'm in the same situation as the OP and from what I can see:

No, there isn't any reason to pay full price for the PS4 version if you already have another version of Skyrim. Nothing will be changed but better visuals and maybe better performance.

I also highly, highly doubt they will add anything to the PS4 version as a "make-up" for no mods. The PS4 version of Skyrim will simply be a $60 graphical upgrade. It is what it is.
