Who is Your Favorite Companion & How Do you Headcanon Th

Post » Wed Sep 28, 2016 9:19 pm

My favorite companion is Borgakh the Steel Heart. I always thought it a shame that most companions were underdeveloped in Skyrim. Borgakh is rather interesting, as she starts off basically as the fairy tale princess being forced into an arranged marriage, turned on its head (as she is a badass orc warrior). I headcanon that she escapes her 'arrangement' by leaving her stronghold with my character, adventuring all across Skyrim and Tamriel, slaying epic monsters and having grand adventures. Therefore gaining a mythic reputation and bringing about glory for her people--much more than she would have done, as just another wife of an orc chieftain.

My favorite companion, as a player, is Erik The Slayer. I find his boyish enthusiasm charming.

But my characters are another matter altogether. They have different tastes than I do. Most of them tend to be loners. And the ones who are not tend to prefer a more rugged, direct, blunt type of personality. Erik effusiveness tends to get on their nerves real fast. Only one of my characters has traveled with Erik so far and even she ditched him after a week or so.

How do I headcanon followers? That depends on the character and the character's story. I have no set rules. I roleplay each character a little differently. And that includes how they pick followers and interact with them.

Oh boy, do I! :P

Personally I love Moth, Brunwulf ,Ogmund and Tullius. But much like Pseron the one I take with me really depends on the character I'm roleplaying as. Of course there are tons of headcanons! It's a bit of the reason why I really enjoy the fact that the NPCs are somewhat bland, you can easily fit them in any story that you're trying to tell. :)

No, none of my favorite companions can be, but they can all be with mods. I have one that allows anyone to be a companion.

Personally Marcurio... His personality is based on "your" ( or my) perception of him...and I like his sarcastic wit. But my Characters choose their own followers depending on need and story... So the followers background is much based on the story I am Role Playing.

I tend not to use followers, as they soak up a lot of the experience that the player character deserves.

That said, it can be fun to use one of the "multiple follower" mods to have a whole gang going around with you. The Tamriel Topless Team was one of each race I could find: Borghak, Areana, Illia, Serana, Beleval, Lydia, Rayya all following my Altmer. Even with the Companion's Insight from Dragonborn protect them all from the player, they could still end up getting mad at each other all the time, especially once the mages started using AoE spells, and cloaks. Headcanoned as "girls just wanna have fun".

I like J'zargo personally I like the way the khaajit speak and a mage type is different from the usual sword-and-board types which are two a penny and have a habit of getting in the way of crucial shots and at just the wrong moment too.

As a Thrall I imagine. Undead Ulfric is quite handy with his shouts :P

Uthgerd. First time I used her she died in Forelhost. Was gutted so now I travel around with her a bit and let her kill stuff to get it out of her system (it's like social work only with greatswords), then make her steward of Lakeview. One, she still gets to kill stuff now and then, two she gets a regular job other than barfly, three the kids won't be stepping out of line after she tells them how she accidentally killed a youngster in a fight and four I imagine her and Rayya having a great time boxing the ears off one another when the old LDB is off saving the world? selling fish to Kleppr.

I liked Frea and Serana. Probably because they are the only fleshed out ones and aren't robots like every other companion in the base game.

But besides them, I actually liked Erandur. He was much more developed than other followers due to his extensive involvement with Vaermina's quest. So involved you actually get to play as him briefly and see things from his perspective. This was something unique that I liked and made me feel all the more attached the Erandur, to the point of giving Vaermine the finger and sacrificing the Skull of Corruption to save Erandur.

I like Erandur as well; I have the alternative start mod installed, I have a save wherein I started with the ship wreck off of the coast of Dawnstar--so I used him early on as a follower. With Serana, I think that Bethesda had a good opportunity to introduce a romance subplot into the game, it sort of comes close, but in the end they left it hanging, when they should have tried to follow through with what they were 'hinting' at. I think Serana was a prototype follower for Bethesda, which evolved into the kind of followers that we see in Fallout 4.

J'zargo: funny comments and phrases

Annekke Crag-jumper: most beautiful female character in Skyrim

Mods have altered somehow their abilities and skills, so I cannot say they are cool for their vanilla counterparts, I don't know them so much.

For default followers I'd say Annekke. For whatever reason her default balance of skills and traits has always seemed to be the perfect compliment to my play style. I don't ever remember her getting in my way, bumping me, breaking sneak, or ruining my shots, and always seems to choose the weapon I would've chosen for her in a given situation all on her own. Usually the default story or quest that accompany most of the followers is basic enough that I can add that to my RP without causing any issues.

LOL! From now on, every time I hear that line I'm going to hear "bourbons" instead of "burdens".

Stenvar "my mar would scold me good if she could see me now " and "maybe we will come across some bandits who have just roasted a rabbit on a spit maybe they will have a keg of ale to" as far as his story goes I see him as an ex legionary looking for a bit of adventure ( he enjoys a good fight ) and trying to gain enough gold to retire on. Marcurio is quite good to he handy in a tight spot and who doesn't love " I'm an apprentice wizard not a pack mule oh alright then".

Good Question. I have been wondering why it has been tasting watered down and just thought it was Saadia.

I don't really use followers, someone above mentioned that when used experience goes elsewhere and not on the player character. When I do use them however, I always go for Vorstag.

Sometimes, when playing as a Nord I like to travel around the Reach. For aesthetic reasons I just think a Nord wielding a battle axe and doned in scaled armour looks really cool when taking out the forsworn - natural enemies to the Nords - and delving into the Reach Nordic tombs. For this alone I can't think of anyone better than Vorstag.

I gather my equipment and essentials, as a role playing measure my Nords only eat animal meats which can be cooked using salt piles, which themselves are plentiful in Reach delves. Also raw vegetables to cook into vegetable soup - feels right as a Nord to eat natural foods, stay away from magic and also benefit from the perks of eating vegetable soup for those tougher enemies)

I smith up my gear the best I can for my current level and call into the Silverblood Inn at Markarth and hire the services of one Vorstag. Then the Reach bears witness to our Nordic wrath!

I think this isn't always bad thing. In past games some have used leveling strategies or mods to slow down leveling. I think followers can be seen as a natural, in-game way to achieve the same result. Speaking for myself, I almost always feel as though my characters are leveling up too fast in Elder Scrolls games. And it feels even faster in Skyrim because we no longer have classes to isolate skills and prevent us from leveling our characters up rapidly.

Anyway, I rarely use followers in Elder Scrolls games. They don't feel right to me. These games were not designed to be party-based games. To me followers in TES games feel a little like like fifth wheels. One's company, two's a crowd. ;)

That said, I've used follower mods when my character's story called for it. I've adventured with Vilja in Oblivion and Skyrim and liked her well enough. In Skyrim I used one mod called Dragon Break Episodes 1 and 2 which adds a clever quest and two followers with some of the most most hilariously ribald dialogue I've ever heard in a mod. But, in general, followers are just not something I want to use consistently.

I suppose that I just can't stand the solitude of open world games, I think they are better with a friendly voice in the background. I guess that it's because I cut my RPG teeth on Baldur's Gate.

Ella, a mod follower currently serving as my character's protege in a tomb-raider and Dwemer researcher roleplay. She's competent but in training, just as she trains Ashina (the main character) in the subtle ways of not being a massive Ashland tool.
