is 1st person fish eyed on purpose for oculus rift?

I went to play skyrim today and the first person view mode looks strange as though the image is being distorted around the edges and more so in the corners where as 3rd person mode thankfully remains unaffected.

Is Skyrim suddenly rendering for VR Headset's like the Oculus Rift, (either that or old CRT monitors and TV's with convex screen) due to an update?

if this the case, can you guys please add an option or something to the launcher or main menu to toggle this on and off as I a have a flat screen (1920 by 1080) and this is pretty jarring.

If it is not due to an update, Is their an ini tweak or something that can be done in the creation kit to disable this?

Unless I become fortunate enough to obtain a VR headset I would very much like the first person view mode to have little or no distortion same the 3rd person view is now and imagine most players would feel the same.

I would hate to think that the special edition could have this problem.

I'd be surprised if a screenshot would show something that's most likely related to the display device.

I think this might be an artifact related to the way that a 3D image is "projected" on a flat screen. Objects in the center of the screen are calculated to be slightly further away than objects at the edges (you're looking at a segment of a 360 degree "circle," with your viewpoint at the center.) You notice it more on older games; in Morrowind, I can watch a distant object appear and disappear as I scroll the center of view past it.

The effect is pretty subtle on most monitors, unless you look for it. To see it, look at a perfectly round object, like a moon, and then move so that it's at the edge of the screen; it will appear to elongate into an oval.

I think the effect would probably be more pronounced if one were using a field of view setting higher than the default.

Is it possible that the resolution setting has been changed to a non-widescreen (stretched) setting? That might exaggerate the effect.

Also likely Skyrim is not designed for VR yet. I do not have any VR gear but it is possible that it uses different resolution settings. I believe the Enhanced Skyrim edition will get a VR version sometime after release like Fallout 4 will be getting. VR users might have to wait for then to get a fully functioning VR experience.

Did something change the Field of View settings in SkyrimPrefs.ini? Default is 75 iirc

[Display]

fDefaultWorldFOV=75
