I have to say, I'm surprised. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/14/arts/music/bob-dylan-nobel-prize-literature.html?_r=0

This surprises me too. But I am glad. I think he deserves it.

Why are you surprised, Pseron?

Yeah, I can see him deserving it, although what kind of expert am I? :frog: I don't really know much about how these prizes work. He's really about as [deleted] as it gets though, when it comes to musicians / poets from our generations. Every other band seems to have their own version of a Dylan song, a lot of them look back to his music, even to this day.

I once read a book on Dylan a long time ago; maybe I was in college. I seem to recall that in his early days, he would basically BS quite a lot. He showed up in New York, and would tell people he'd played with all these famous musicians in the blues circuit (something like this) and that he repeated these stories so often, maybe he even began to believe them, and certainly he convinced others.

Whatever though. If it's true (and the things he was saying were partially BS) it certainly worked in the long run, so far as him attaining eternal Fame points.

I'm not suggesting that Dylan doesn't deserve accolades, but the Nobel committee has gone so far off the deep end in it's laughable peace prize selections over the past couple decades that it's hard not to dismiss the other prizes as largely meaningless as well.

It is probably because if the influence he has over today's current and aspiring poets. I think it's fair in that regard.

I agree with this. Nobel prize in the last decade has become so meaningless that they may as well be a cracker Jack prize.

Good for him and all, but it's almost as bad as a participation medal.

The Nobel prize is normally awarded for a body of work. The one thing Bob Dylan has,is an impressive body of work.

His work travels from funny to sad and stops at all the stations in between.

Sorry, you're too late Pseron. I posted http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1609432-2016-nobel-prize-in-literature/ just minutes after the announcement.
