but I can't see it.

So I downloaded Skyrim SE from steam. Started playing it, played for 77 minutes with no problems. Wanted to install a few mods, Tried to get NMM to recognize it, but it didn't. No biggie. Tried the mods section of the game. Installed 4 or 5 mods, installation didn't seem to be a problem. Backed out, it told me it needed to put them in order and screen went black except for rotating circle on right bottom of screen. Waited a full 5 minutes with no reaction. Could not get anything to react to alt-tab, task manager wouldn't come up when I asked it to. So I did a restart. Conveniently, somehow microsoft slipped in some updated software that needed to be installed on restart. So anyway, I restart pc, restart steam, no problems, restart game, hit play...

The mouse has a small circle next to it for about 5 seconds, circle disappears, but nothing happens...No Icon in task bar.

HOWEVER, task manager says that Skyrim IS running?!?!?!

WTF? So, I deleted local files, I'm only like level 3 so it doesn't matter if I start over, redownloaded everything, but still get same result. I can do whatever I want but play skyrim, but task manager says its running. Task bar says its not.

ANYONE have any ideas? What can I do to just get the game going again?

had this problem too. I put a mod named "Gifts of Akatosh" on download, let it sit for 8 hours while I slept. figured becausee it was a big file it needed time to download right? so I let it do it's thing while I slept, but even after 8 hours it didn't download the mod. so I had to go into the steam >> steamapps >> common >> Skyrim Special Edition >> Data >> then delete whatever mods that weren't installed properly.

SOLVED!!! That was it. Gift of Akatosh Mod. Deleted it and I'm in game now. Thanks for idea!
