"Talk to everyone, talk is cheap." This is good advice that NPCs will give you. Talk to anybody you see and pay attention to what you read in their dialogue if you are talking to them about quests and such. Refer to your journal often too if you forget what someone said.
Morrowind is a slower paced game than what you may be used to, so take things easy at first and don't go rushing into things you aren't sure about because you can (and probably will at some point) take on more than you are capable of handling.
Save often.
Don't be dumb and run around killing random people unless you want to break your game because you can do that. NPCs aren't protected as they are in Bethesda's more recent games, so if you kill a quest giver or otherwise important person, that's tough; you will not be able to complete the quests they were involved in.
