Sorry if this has been discussed before but I'm wondering does anyone know what the random black smoke clouds are that appear in the far distance in the game? When you first cross over the mountains to Whiterun if you look at the mountains in the distance there you can seem them. They sort of fade in and out as you spin the camera around. I toggled first person control using the console to try to get closer to them. They are in the middle of the sky it seems:-

I noticed them on my first trip to Whiterun. I think I saw them one other time early on, but I don't remember where. I have no clue.

It's strange I don't remember them being in the original game. I may have to install it and check out of curiosity. I wonder if it's a bug caused by the dlcs being integrated similar to the wolves no longer howling

So you're using SSE yes? It would have probably helped if you mentioned that not everyone has abandoned the original. So what mods are you using if any?

I have different issue z-fighting on the mountains is gone but z-fighting on distant LOD buildings like Dragonsreach exists instead fickers like a maniac far worse than the mountains ever did. I'm pretty sure its mod related but havn't attempted to track it down I don't play SSE anyhow other than to try the odd thing out.

Its the Foresworn. Its how they send telegrams....

I thought it was the Orcs trying to communicate to the other Orc Strongholds.

Or more likely it was the Khajiits Cheech and Chong.
