Where's My Bottleneck?

Post » Tue Nov 15, 2016 6:45 pm

Averaging around 30-40 fps, and I'm wondering where my bottleneck is? Stock 4.0 Ghz Intel Core i7 4790k processor, 16 GBs DDR3 RAM, Nvidia 970 video card, Steam and game installed in SSD. Would overclocking my processor help any, or should I look more at RAM and my video card? Ideally like to get constant 60 fps.

What are your launcher settings? (list them)

Are you forcing any settings in NVIDIA control panel? (if so, list them)

Have you changed any settings in the Skyrim ini's (if so, list them)

You should be getting more than 30-40 with that rig. Something's up.

Shot in the dark to see if you get an FPS boost - try turning 'shadow detail' down to high (from ultra), turn 'God rays' down to medium, turn 'antialiasing' down to 2x (or turn it off and switch on FXAA). I'm not arguing whether or not you should be able to run at those settings (you should) but we're in diagnostic mode here. How much of an FPS boost did the above give?

I have everything set to High and Ultra, and I do have quite a few mods installed, which I imagine is probably part of the problem. That's how I want everything. I haven't changed any setting in the Nvidia control panel. Would overclocking the processor help any? I doubt more RAM would help? Probably what I really need to do is upgrade to an Nvidia 1070, huh?
