Setting hotkeys

Post » Sat Jul 10, 2010 5:14 pm

Ive tried posting this in the mods section of the forum but have gotten no response so came here.

When using mods they occasionally ask me to set a unused key on my keyboard for some function that the mod needs a command key for. For instance Deadly Reflexes bash key. Now despite my previous setting of the Deadly Reflex keys in the .ini i still must set them when i start a new character which isnt how its supposed to work. This wouldnt be a problem if when i set the keys they actually work, because usually they refuse to accept the key im hitting. Then when i get frustrated and start mashing keys they finally set, but when i go to use that key the command doesnt register. Its as if i never even set the hotkey in the first place. I think this may be an issue that can be solved by a console command so please help!

Are you running the correct version of OBSE for your mods?

Im running the latest version and that is what both seem to require

Also ive been able to set the hotkeys on one and only on character. I was only able to set them on the 1st character i logged into the 1st time i played with both these mods. However any other existing characters or new characters will not allow me to set them.

For some mods, you have to hold the key down until the script sees it. (for setting keys....) I don't know exactly which mods you are using, but, after you set the keys once, it is possible that they are storing that value in an ini file, and check it when you start up the game, it may not be able to tell that you are starting a new game, so, continues to use the old values. Possible??

That seems very likely. I used a fix for the Oblivion .ini that seemed to work for Deadly Reflex. But Craftybits is still screwed up, perhaps an .ini save from the console would do the trick?

The oblivion.ini won't remember those settings, some mods have/create their own ini file, for such things. Should be either in your data folder, or a subfolder thereof, just depends on how the mod author set it up.
