Problem with making items static.

Post » Wed Nov 30, 2016 10:07 pm

Hey!

Would be sooo very happy for your help ...

I try to make things static, non moveble, but I fail.

Ive done exactly like in the youtube videos, when to copy the NIF file and pressing edit 2 times to then get up meshes… When I do this i get a warning reply "invalid directory".

When I look in the data folder I find no meshes folder. I only find a meshes BSA file, there is simply no meshes folder. I find that strange, well im using meshes all the time in CK, do i not?

So, what should i do now, i really want this to work in order to decorate my house properly. I brewsed around the internet but i cant find any help for this…

PS, im pretty new to all this so please keep the answers in ”english” ;)

Please help me! /Have a nice day, from Anna in Sweden.

Not sure about the actual nif-editing, but if you haven't got a Meshes folder... Just create one :D You can do the same for 'Textures', too. The Game and CK can both use the Meshes and Textures from the .bsa files directly.

By the sounds of it you're trying to edit a Vanilla Mesh? If so, you'd want to extract the vanilla .bsa files--you should be able to get a .bsa extractor from Nexus, and just extract them to your Skyrim/Data folder. The one I used to use was... BSA Extractor, but I think it's out of date now, and there might be a better one available.

Hi :) TNX for writing!!

Im using all the DLC:s also.

Ok, BSA Extractor, need to check that out then! I was under the impression that i "only" did something wrong, not that i needed to download other stuff and so on...

So people on the youtube videos already extracted their files whit some kind of a tool then?

They're not using an extractor it just makes it easier if you do.

The way to make objects static is to duplicate an existing static and then change filepath to the .nif model of the item you want to become static. The problem is the filepath only exists in the BSA and the CK gets confused because its looking for a "real" filepath. Its possible to do with a BSA but its hard to explain and a bit tricky to perform. The easiest solution is to extract the file together with the folder it belongs to as a loose file then the CK can find it easy.

The latest version of Nifskope can directly read from the .bsa files, no need to extract anymore. Get it https://github.com/jonwd7/nifskope/releases.

1. Open the nif file you want to change

2. Make the changes to the collision to make it static

3. Create a new directory in your Skyrim data folder - Skyrim\Data\meshes\

4. Save the changed nif to your new directory

5. Open CK and create a new static object pointing to your new nif
