Something weird with Skyrim on laptops?

Post » Sat Dec 24, 2016 10:43 pm

Ok, so I'm asking this as a question. I want to know why Skyrim is brought from 25 fps to 60 fps when I do 2 things.

1. Set my laptop's power mode to Favour Performance. (Favour performance but use more power)

2. Charge at the same time.

You might think of course it increases performance it says "Favour Performance" but if I don't charge at the same time it stays at 25-30 fps. When I charge it, it stays at a buttery smooth 60 fps. Lag spikes are still a thing of course.

Can anyone explain? Also if you want my laptop specs as well just ask because I personally don't think its necessary.

In concerns of your laptop problem - do you have any heavy mods?

"Favor Performance" is still an energy-saving mode, using less than the full power of your laptop. If you're in an energy-saving mode, you will only get full performance when connected to power.

If you want full performance on battery, you'll need to turn energy saving completely off. (And your battery will go down fast. You'll be not only using your chips to capacity, but also running cooling fans to keep them from melting. :) )

Does your laptop have a detachable accumulators?

I always advise to take off the accumulators when you are home and and use the charger instead (the accumulators are stored, fully charged).

Now, if you go to Power Options>Change plan settings>Change advanced power settings, you will see there are two separate columns. First column is for the situation you are using your accumulator as power source and the second column is for when you have the charger connected.

I usually select "Power saver" mode and edit the second column for Maximum Performance.

We don't know enough about your laptop to be sure, since you post no specifications at all but....

My guess is that it is borderline on the requirements. By selecting "performance" it's making adjustments to how the CPU/GPU/memory manage performance and resources.

You likely need to plug it in. Power options and power saving are treated differently by Windows when you are running on the battery vs when you are plugged in. If you are using something like Windows 7, you can type 'power' in the start

menu text box and select power options. CHeck out the change power plan settings. Among other things, the laptop is probably throttling the CPU and maybe the GPU as well.
