What am i doing wrong people?

Post » Sat Jan 07, 2017 7:48 pm

Ok when i first start the game it chooses the ultra high settings but i take serious fps hit.....ive always shot for 60 fps and usually i can maintain it but i runn on medium settings with certain settings further adjusted.

Lately my 19 year old said that 60 fps is a crazy goal to try and maintain.

So i was hoping someone could glance at my info below and tell me what im doing wrong.

I don't think 60 FPS is a crazy goal. I get a solid 58-60 FPS in my heavily modded game and I have ultra graphics settings at 1080p. I've got a slightly better GPU (780ti) and a slightly faster i-5 processor (4670k, Skyrim won't benefit from the extra cores in an i-7 anyway).

I have found that a lot of this kind of stuff is resolved only by trial and error. I recently got my Oblivion sped up with a 25 FPS improvement in problem areas by removing a single mod (TWMP Valenwood Elsweyr -- the landscape mod) that for whatever reason was not playing nice with the rest of my load order.

I had a similar experience in Skyrim when I replaced Touring Carriages with CFTO. Went from 40 FPS in problem areas like ETaC modified towns to a smooth 58-60. But I am not blaming Touring Carriages. I am not sure exactly why a change like that would boost FPS so much, but I suspect it was the reduction in script load, since I run a lot of other mods with constantly running scripts.

So, yeah, I'd start by trying to figure out where the game slows down for you and under what circumstances that happens, then test by deactivitating mods one by one that affect those areas or situations, until you find the one (or more) that is slowing your game. Then you will have to decide whether the performance gain is worth loosing the mod.

Oh, and you should probably start a new game if you remove mods. Good luck with getting your game sped up.

Not a crazy goal. It depends on the hardware and the game. Are we talking SKyrim or Skyrim SE?

Make sure the game is using the Dedicated GPU not the integrated GPU. Of course, as you add mods you may and often will take a FPS hit. Texture mods, graphic overhaul mods, and ENB series often being the hardest hitters.

R9 290 should be plenty good enough for 1080p. Any ENB's at all?

COuld be mod related. You would have to disable them all including the loose file folders and start a new game to see.
