[Rel] Trap Hacking SSE

Post » Mon Jan 09, 2017 5:40 am

I was tired of my followers hitting traps and the other mods didn't give me the kind of immersion I wanted.

Even the lightfoot perk makes no sense, you can walk over a pressure plate now? Even jump on it?

What does this mod do?

Spoiler

You jam stuff in traps to *semi-permanently remove them from your game play.

*due to save bloat concerns, the traps will automatically be reset whenever the global

reset call is made based on game time. However, because this may cause issues in the future

I took the extra step of forcing a reset every 10 days and ONLY on the traps you have hacked.

I have fully followed the advice of USKP,

no hidden objects should remain in your save files, this mod should be 100% safe to use.

So just think of it like a draugr came by and

kicked out your shims.

Although this mod does nothing if your sneak skill is lower than 15.

Between 15 and 30 you have a 33% chance to set off a trap.

Between 30 and 60, a 15% chance to set off a trap.

Between 60 and 80 about a 5% chance to set off a trap.

Anything above 80 is about a 0.1% chance.

Just because you set off a trap inadvertently doesn't mean the trap isn't jammed.

Traps always jam, or are taken apart. Sometimes the traps go off though depending on your sneak skill.

You can mitigate the chances of a trap going off by sharpening a few of the tools used at the crafting forge.

Using sharpened tools decreases the likelihood of a trap springing accidentally.

The tool sharpening is intended to help non-sneak oriented players and provide some

roleplaying and immersion qualities to the mod. You don't have to sharpen anything for it to work.

You must have a blacksmith hammer in your inventory to create Sharpened tools and you must have

a Ruins (Embalming) Scalpel to whittle wood shims for the metal trap.

There are 3 stone Pressure Plates, two often found in Nordic Ruins, a small and a larger one.

The third is a Dwemer Pressure Plate often found in, you guessed it, Dwemer Ruins.

These can be hacked with Lockpicks, Embalming Tools, and Kitchen Utensils.

There are four Embalming Tools, the Scalpel does not work for these stone traps.

Its just not the right tool for the job. There are 6 different Kitchen Utensils in the game,

a basic fork and knife, and a dwemer fork, knife and spoon. Any combo of these will work.

There is one other Pressure Plate type in the game you may run across, a metal version.

For this, you cannot jam it with Lockpicks, or the Embalming Scissors or any Kitchen Utensil.

The other three Embalming Tools will work and you can also create wood shims at the forge if

you have at least 1 piece of firewood and an Embalming Scalpel in your inventory.

There is also a Tripwire trap you will run across, you can dismantle this without any special tools,

except your sneak skill.

The same goes for the Bone Sound Traps, you can dismantle these in nice bundles at your feet.

There are a few special Pressure Plates and Traps found around Skyrim that this mod does not touch,

those are usually for puzzles or some special scene, not an error or bug on my part.

When you dismantle traps I have an quick, automatic object placement system that

always tries to get the correct position and angle for placement. This is based directly

on Chesko's Campfire Object Placement system but much more simplistic and automatic.

The credit for this system working at all goes entirely to him.
