Staem: Greenlight on the Way Out?

Post » Wed Feb 15, 2017 11:23 pm

Steam has https://techraptor.net/content/steam-greenlight-cancelled (TechRaptor Link) that by Spring of 2017, the Greenlight process will be replaced by a "Steam Direct" process for getting new games onto Steam.

Any thoughts on this? Greenlight definitely needed something done, as so many universally rated "poor" games were getting in. This new system "seems" to be better, requiring developers to provide more transparency.

The number of "new games" should go down significantly, but is this a bad thing?

What are your thoughts? Do you care? :D

No. I've never participated.

I don't log into Steam at all unless I want to purchase a game. And after I have purchased my game I go offline immediately. Although I've been a member since 2004 I'd guess I've only been connected to Steam for a total of, maybe, 45 minutes. And even that was too long for my taste.

Doesn't really matter to me. I spend a lot of time on Steam, but it's either looking through the store or my game library. Never really messed with Greenlight.

This is pretty much me, too. Matter of fact, if I can find the game NOT on Steam, I'll go there first.

I have heard a lot of complaints, though, through YouTube gamers and message boards about how "broke" the Greenlight system is. All kinds of abuse of the system (paid "up voters" and such) that seem to circumvent the system. I'm not a fan of Steam (typo in the thread title got me :wallbash:), but realize many gamers use it almost exclusively :)

I'll be honest. With PC games I usually do. Maybe 80% Steam and 20l% GoG.

My backlog is big though. I haven't bought any Pc games in a while. Too many I haven't touched.

Never bothered with Greenlight myself, but I suppose it's a good thing. No more "developers" releasing poorly made games to make a quick buck.

This post sums up my total online steam usage as well.

Just gotta be careful not to log in when a game is expecting to update..because then it wont play in offline mode :/
