[WIPZ]Parrots of Vvardenfell

Post » Tue Jul 13, 2010 9:36 am

Sorry to hear your modelling frustration mandamus - there is no rush - though if you wanted to do a beta release you could perhaps do a blink out script like Emma did with her children - so that if they were attacked they would teleport to safety - are they particullary aggressive parrots? As in likely to move into aggro mode when you get too close?

Thanks Illuminiel! I don't think I'll make a beta release though: since I'll be redoing all the animations, the anims from a beta wouldn't reflect what's to be expected from the final mod. I won't be doing them exactly the same way, they will be longer, smoother animations (hopefully :P )
Poor guy, that svcks :(. You must have a very positive attitude if this doesn?t frustrates you, I would certainly need a week until I would get back to this. But you?re right, at least you will know it better next time. Take your time, I?m pretty sure, when this comes out I will still be playing MW even if it takes a little longer :).

Thanks Coleman for your kind words, it helps :) I don't get frustrated because I try to always keep in mind that I do all this for fun, and that issues like this are to be expected when modeling and animating.
Great companion mod though I prefer a hawk that'll be awesome

Thanks, I probably won't be making a hawk after my parrots are released though, if I do more creatures the next one I'll create will probably be a walking one, far easier! ;)
wow you managed to animate it :D - thats awsome!!!

i cant wait for this to be released!!!

good luck M,

=MA=

Hi Midgetalien! Thanks, but I still need to redo the animations (check my previous post to read more about this), so it may still take a while.
So again, thanks for your patience everyone :hehe:

Random crap http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Archeopterix/Max/OblivionCS/

*jaw drop* Those look gorgeous! I'd love to see some of these in Morrowind, if that is possible (I don't know if they use OB resources or not). Whales, wow, that would be awesome!

@Mandamus: Learn something new everyday, eh? ^_^ Good luck with the animation-ing, let us know how things turn out! I'm really looking forward to seeing some parrots in Vvardenfell!

Looking for any new news. ;)

Sorry for the late answer!

I am sorry to say that this project is officially on hold for at least 8 (!) months.
I have been selected to study on exchange at the University of Victoria (BC) during the 2009/2010 academic year. As a result, I will be studying in Victoria for two terms. I am very excited by this opportunity to study and live abroad for a year, and to practice my English on a daily basis! This is like a dream, I never imagined I would be selected. I have been in Victoria for only five days, and I am really busy filling forms for banking, health insurance, preparing myself for the beginning of the term... and making new friends :) This is like starting a new life for a year, and is very exciting.

What this all means for this project, however, is that I can no longer work on it, at least for now. All my morrowind related files are on a computer back in France; I have Paint Shop Pro on the laptop I brought along with me to Canada, but not 3dsmax, morrowind, and the cs. I also do not have the texture and mesh files related to this project, so I guess there's not much I can do. I don't think I would have the time to work on it anyway. I've been told the workload at UVic is more time-consuming than it is in France.
I do not know yet if I will be coming back to France for Christmas, but I don't think I will work on this wip before next June.

A bit off-topic, but for any of you wondering if the hairstyle I posted screenshots of a few weeks ago in the screenshot thread will ever get released given the situation, I will try to find a solution. I will ask my family back in France if they can send me the meshes and textures of the hairstyle, and if I manage to get them I will try to finish the textures with PSP and will ask for help from the community to make an esp. I am sure the community will be, as always, very helpful! (I would not want to release a hairstyle without any esp as I know it is not easy for everyone to set up new bodyparts in the cs).

This project of bringing parrots to morrowind is very dear to me, but it seems to be a cursed project... But I will release it someday, because everyone who's posted in this thread has been very encouraging and supportive, and I wouldn't want to let them down. So again... thank you for your patience.

That's a very good news for your studies Mandamus, so don't be sorry!

Your parrots are wonderful and worth waiting for a few months more! But if you cannot really go on working on them, maybe someone here will be able to finish them and add some animation... MW modding is still very active. For any further development, personally I would enjoy seeing such parrots in Abot's mod "Where Are All The Birds Going". I also believe that the Nova Magica team would be able to make this parrot a very nice familiar (Alliop is going on developing a "Magic of familiars" for Nova). It's up to you! ^_^

Bonnes ?tudes au Canada!

Arrghh! Aye aye, one eyed mate! Ha, this birdie has quite a future to come.. :) Few things came to my mind. First, the animation might as well be done with replacing different pauldrons (or bracers/glowes). This way it doesn't leave much space for real-life-like stuff, but the bird can turn his head once in a while, move a wing, stuff like that. Second, when you release it, could you please add a version where the bird holds it's wings closed? It would look a tad more real for me. Third, I'm thinking of a small script that would add quite amazing effect to the parrot - when someone says something, bird mocks it. Script detects the sound being played, then plays the mocked version. I don't know much about audio editing, but changing pitch to the original Morrowind sound files would probably resemble the voice of a parrot. I'll try this myself, but audacity isn't the bestest out there. Someone more sound oriented could take a look (a hear?) at that.

EDIT: Ah, didn't read all the comments, the animating is already done. Well, no matter. I tried the sound pitching, and you know what?! It sounds like .. high pitched sound. It needs to be more "parroty". Can't think of the right effect to be applied, and yes - audacity isn't exactly the Photoshop of audio editing. I might later take a look at some random voice changers around the globe.

Anynews on this??

Hi Midgetalien!

I would like to have news, but... I can't mod right now! (read my last post in this thread to know why). I'm still on the forums, to know what's going on in the community and what mods are being worked on :)
I will come back on this next Summer though, don't worry!! ^_^ I've had this wip going on for so long, I'm not going to drop it. (especially since it is, let's face it, a relatively simple mod)

Thanks for the bump though, really glad to know some people are still interested in this. And sorry for not having any news!

Edit: I'm going to update the first post so that evrybody knows what's going on, and will also add the latest pictures that most people probably didn't see, since they are on page 3.

Actually it is too hot and dry where I am spending this summer in France (in Vendée), I get sunburned in less than 15 minutes if I try to leave the house between 10:00 and 18:00 :o. I wish it would rain more often!

Thanks for bumping this topic btw. I don't have pics or news to post, but I'm going to start working on this again soon (but not before next week). I'm hoping to release my parrots before the end of Summer, we'll see. I will post more when I have updates to share.

They really look adorable in the screens. I wasn't going to add any more mods to my game but I simply have to make an exception for these when they are released. My character can't have enough pets. :)

Je parle fran?ais... et je suis fran?ais (born in Burgundy) ;) I'm in Vendée atm but I will be living in Nantes after this summer. I was abroad in British Columbia as an exchange student from sept 09 to june 10, but I'm back in France now.
Hopefully this answers your question :P

Ah, unfortunately I'm far too lazy to use sun protection :hehe:

Thank you Forest Stalker :) My plan is to animate them as creatures, but also (if I can) to make animated versions sitting on one of the shoulders (I've never attempted something like that before). I would like to place a few in the wilderness (as passive creatures), but my main goal is to make them available as pets, as I can't see myself using my axe on my own parrots or let cliffracers eat them :o
But first, I'm going to look into improving the wings (the ones I have are hard to animate).
